A company I was at a long time ago worked LSU players in the summer. One of JR’s lineman worked for us. He said the man had Superman talent but was dumb as a box of rocks. He said that often times in the huddle he would have to ask a black lineman what they were running because he couldn’t understand JR

Guess who is the worst quarterback on this list? Even Colt McCoy had more success than him as a starter and played for a national championship.

It was Jamarcus. The guy underachieved and managed to lose 4 games and almost piss away several others on some elite LSU football teams from 2005-2006.

You don't think Russell wins a title if he stays in 2007?

If so, why not?

And don't be vague about it, specify why Flynn was a better QB than Russell.

And in 2006, per the final polls,we lost to the eventual national champion Florida and #8 Auburn team (the only team to beat Florida that year), both on the road.

And we got fricked with the PI call against Auburn too

If you watch The Last Dance about how absolutely obsessed Jordan was with working hard and getting better, or hear stories of Kobe Bryant and his approach to working on his game...the list goes on forever.

Every one of those players has a work ethic beyond a normal athlete. J.Russell didn’t have the work ethic. Great talent got him a massive amount of money, maybe more than a lot of professional players would make in their entire careers. But he was a flop because he didn’t want to work hard.

I worked out with a guy who played with him at Williamson HS in Mobile. He said Russell hated getting hit and that Russell was always a little soft and shy if you got some licks on him. Some guys just don’t have the physicality or the drive to dominate.

You’re right about the work habits. I remember reading a story that Russell was dating Fats Dominos niece when Katrina hit. Fats moved in with Russell and his GF after Katrina and Russell said he learned a lot about dedication to your kraft and the detail it takes to be great from Fats. You saw the results in 06 as it was by far his best season college or pro. No other season in his entire career resembled the 06 season and I’m sure no other off season resemble his prep work for that year either.

If anything Jamarcus's pro career "flub" is dismissed because of his college career. Vince Young's legendary Texas title run absolved entirely his failure to mount the NFL peaks.

Jamarcus is either remembered as a pretty great college QB of the era or one of many Raiders failures.

I don't think his issues had much to do with the NFL organization that he was with. He was a ticking time bomb that as soon as money was added went off.

“ But I think he is a top-5 all timer for LSU.
Burrow
Hodson
Jones
Russell
Davey”

Rohan Davey as top 5 while you leave out two national championship QB’s?

C’mon...no credibility with that list.

Also, Russell has said that when his uncle the radio DJ died, he was like a father figure to him. Imagine getting $30 million dollars when you are 22yrs old and you move out to California with no structured system in place that makes you accountable to workout, watch film, get better....then you father figure dies and you have weight issues etc.

Most 22yr olds would just mail it in too after getting that payday. He’s completely responsible for not working hard but it’s also not really surprising.

There are people on this board who seriously think Flynn was a better QB at LSU than Russell, so yes.

Flynn holds the record for most TDs and passing yards on a team that had Bart Starr, Bret Favre, and Aaron Rogers. The only NFL team records Russell held is the record for fewest plays learned, and biggest bust in NFL history.

He was a good QB at LSU.
