His team will also look to do this before the lockout since Manfred wants to limit contracts to five years.

Velocity is down, and K's are down. ERA still very respectable but not stupid like it was.

:Pirates were very careful with him not to overwork him but still when you get to the majors you are just pitching more. Could be some arm fatigue. Could be an injury undiagnosed as of yet.

Still a very good MLB pitcher relatively speaking but we're not seeing she sheer dominance we saw his first two years. Not as much swing and miss for sure.

But can’t say his velocity dip isn’t a bit concerning.

I think that's the tough part of when your big strength is gassing the pitch. Kind of like how if your NBA game relies heavily on your explosiveness. Granted Skenes is still young, but your arm at some point can't maintain those insane velocities.

Skenes rarely gets any run support

Pitt is 4th in MLB runs scored per game

1 Washington 5.28
2 LA Dodgers 5.27
3 Milwaukee 5.16
4 Pittsburgh 5.11

Pitt avg 3.6 runs per game in 2025. So they have added some run support this season.

I bet Livvy would say that his “Mojo” is quite impressive.

What are their runs per game when he pitches? I’m too lazy to look it up

Over a full run per game more than their average. Keep in mind that as a No. 1, when Skenes pitches the Pirates may line up with the other teams number one more often than with any other pitcher on their staff.

I don't have the numbers to back that up and the Pirates for a while were doing a 6-man rotation so maybe not?

The Pirates have a better record than they've had in years and are third in the MLB in runs scored. This statement is no longer true. They've scored like 100 less runs than they did all season last year and we are halfway. They also lead the league in hits.
