They have a case but they won’t be. They’ll have to accept that LSU , despite being decimated by injuries, continues to win and has done absolutely nothing to drop in the polls

I don't actually wish injuries on anyone, but I would be interested to see a team like SC survive the same amount of injuries LSU has had.

Weird how LSU continues to just win.

In the span of 4 hours the rant has gone from "WE WON'T WIN A REGIONAL" to "NO TEAM HAS AN ARGUMENT TO BE #1 BESIDES US" Been a fun case study on male emotions.

I suspect there’s very little overlap in the posters arguing those two positions. While I wouldn’t say SC has no argument (and that the margins either way are very close), I do think the case for LSU is stronger. My arguments have primarily been against the notion that SC has irrefutably played a tougher schedule and/or is clearly more deserving. I don’t really take issue with someone saying that SC arguably has a case or that by some measures they have outperformed LSU or played a tougher schedule. I’d still argue what the most accurate measures are, but I wouldn’t dispute that there is grey area there.

Do you follow South Carolina closely enough to know their injury situation? I don't so I just did a quick google search.

quote:

South Carolina’s been without Will McGillis for all but four SEC games and Noah Hall left his start at Mississippi State with a back injury and hasn’t pitched since.

On top of that, Talmadge LeCroy left Tuesday’s 10-4 win over Charleston Southern with a hamstring injury.

That’s two everyday starters in the lineup and the Gamecocks’ Saturday arm in the rotation either out or questionable for this weekend, leaving South Carolina looking for answers.

That was written right before they swept #3 Florida this weekend.

Genuine question, if a South Carolina fan came up to you and said "we have a better overalll record, a better SEC record, we've played a harder schedule, we have a better RPI, and went 1-1 against you while leading for 16 of 18 innings. What is you argument that LSU should be ahead of us?'

What would your response be

I hope that the voters put them and WF ahead of us. That would be very bad news for Bama

I am posting statistical facts, not some opinion. LSU is 10-6 against top 50 RPI teams. SC is 16-5 LSU is 16-7 against top 100 RPI teams SC is 16-6

I’m simply pointing out the logical conclusions that are necessary to accept those “statistical facts” as valid measures. The RPI formula is an overly simplistic, arbitrary piece of junk. I could just as easily create a formula to arbitrarily combine data to draw just about any conclusion I might want. The results of that formula would not be a statistical “fact”.

Reading the thread, one of the main arguments by some for LSU to be #1 right now was that South Carolina hasn't done enough to jump preseason #1, while LSU hasn't done enough to lose #1.

Which is why I framed my argument from the beginning that if this was like the CFP in football where there is no preseason ranking, a committee would probably see South Carolina's better SEC record, higher RPI, better record against RPI Top 50, tougher SoS and head to head split as a compelling case to have South Carolina #1 over LSU.

I'm not saying that RPI or any other stat is perfect. But they are widely accepted as stats that matter. I was simply posting them to say that South Carolina has a legitimate argument as to why they should be the #1 ranked team.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter and I believe that we will finish better than South Carolina, but to say that they have no argument to be #1 is incredibly foolish. And people in this thread were saying that.

agreed. It’s not just pitchers either . We’ve lot multiple starters among the position group as well.

The impact of that cannot be underestimated.

It’s weird how some of our fans ignore that and downplay the team’s continued success while propping up other schools who have done nothing more than we’ve done with nowhere near the injuries

LSU has been without their starting right fielder for a couple weeks, a weekend starting pitcher all year and our starting catcher for a couple of weeks as well as losing Tommy White for a couple weeks earlier this year combined with losing our top two guys out the bullpen for the entire season a couple of weeks ago

Excuse me if I don’t feel sorry for South Carolina and their missing a pitcher for one weekend

A top 3 hitter for South Carolina has only played in 4 SEC games. Another top 3 hitter for them was out this weekend as well as their Saturday starter. Those are major pieces to their team. And they swept the #3 team in the country.

Kling has been a starter in right a lot.

Neal is the starting catcher.

I’d have to check but I think White missed more than 3 games.

And those guys have all been kids we were counting on along with the best arms in our pen who’ve been lost for the year

Yet we still went to their park and split with them before they chickened out of game 3

And South Carolina lost a series to a vandy team that just got annihilated by Tennessee all weekend lol

It’s amazing how you dismiss the impact of LSU’s injuries while attempting to emphasize South Carolina’s

You completely dismiss South Carolina losing a weekend series, which LSU has yet to do, also.

If you’re the top team in America you overcome injuries like LSU has done. You don’t get to use that as an excuse when you get your arse kicked on the weekend and puss out on a game 3 vs us

And to suggest that Kling, Neal, and our pitchers aren’t major pieces of our team is laughable.

But we keep winning.

Maybe they should have had the balls to play us all 3 games if they’re that concerned with the rankings lol

Kling is not an everyday starter. Neal might not be an everyday starter when he returns. Tommy White has played in 36/39 total games.

No I didn't. I simply said that they have had injuries too, which you had no clue about. And their injuries are to major contributors as well.

No I'm not, it's just not as big of a deal as you are making it out to be.
