of. #1 The head to head matchup. ( SC sardine ballpark aside ) Sharper - more consistent play, batting, pitching, fielding, coaching. Blowout game 1 - ( bring excuses ) homerun to win game 2 ( outplayed again ) they shredded our pitching.
At the end of the day, it was a split series at SC. Maybe the run differential offsets the home field advantage and maybe this could be some sort of tiebreaker, but it’s definitely not a clear differentiator.

#2- They just swept Florida.
And lost a series to Vandy last week. Both are 5-3 against ranked conference foes. Add in the series win against Tennessee for LSU when they re-enter the rankings tomorrow and LSU is 3-0-1 in series against ranked teams vs 1-1-1 for SC. This is absolutely not a clear differentiator in favor of SC.

#3 - our pitching continues to be a huge cluster $$$$.
They finally faced a weak offense this weekend and fared pretty well. The other 5 conference opponents were in the top 7 in the conference in runs scored. No one has great stats against the top offenses in the league. SC has given up 43 runs in 8 games against teams in the top half of the conference in scoring.

Which is why I framed my argument from the beginning that if this was like the CFP in football where there is no preseason ranking, a committee would probably see South Carolina's better SEC record, higher RPI, better record against RPI Top 50, tougher SoS and head to head split as a compelling case to have South Carolina #1 over LSU.
I agree that where teams were in preseason shouldn’t matter. Your CFP like scenario would still depend upon when the first rankings were determined. If it was after SC lost the series to Vandy (or before that weekend) chances are LSU still would be ahead of them due to that series loss. If the first rankings were to come out this week, it’s possible the overall resume could give SC the edge if the committee were giving heavy weight to flawed RPI rankings. Missouri is 5-13 and #13 in conference, but they are Top 25 in the RPI. That’s just one example of the limitations of that metric.

If the roles were reversed LSU fans would think they should be #1

i don’t care who is number 1 but i know two things:
South Carolina is a good team
We would have won the series against them if the weekend wasn’t all jacked up

Well they are #1 in the SEC. It doesn’t make a lot of sense how LSU is #1 in the country but #3 in the SEC. Just goes to show polls mean absolutely nothing, other than something to look at.

Doesn’t matter at all right now.

Being #1 in the polls during the season doesn't actually matter at all ever.

Honestly who cares. The only thing that matters is what happens in Omaha.

I'm not saying that RPI or any other stat is perfect. But they are widely accepted as stats that matter. I was simply posting them to say that South Carolina has a legitimate argument as to why they should be the #1 ranked team. At the end of the day it doesn't matter and I believe that we will finish better than South Carolina, but to say that they have no argument to be #1 is incredibly foolish. And people in this thread were saying that.
I agree SC has an argument and also agree there are plenty who give strong consideration to the RPI. Anyone who digs a little deeper will see that the RPI is hiding and distorting things.
Missouri is 5-13 in conference and Ole Miss is 3-15. Missouri did sweep Tennessee, but they’ve also been swept by Alabama and lost a series to A&M (along with going 1-8 against SC, Kentucky and Vandy). Ole Miss is worse at 3-15, but not so much worse that SC should be credited with going 3-0 against the Top 25 with their sweep of Missouri while LSU’s sweep is outside the Top 50. There’s only a marginal difference there. The RPI massively distorts that.
Georgia is 7-11 in conference with a sweep of Arkansas and series win over Kentucky, but a series loss to Auburn. Tennessee is 8-10 with sweeps of Vandy and A&M, but got swept by Missouri. Again, the RPI distorts things have Georgia in the Top 25 but not Tennessee.
Miss St is 6-12 with a series loss to Auburn. A&M is 9-9 with no bad series losses and a series win over Kentucky. Again, RPI distorts things with Miss St ahead of A&M.
At the end of the day, LSU and SC are both 5-3 against currently ranked conference foes including 1-1 head-to-head. The difference is LSU was 2-0-1 in those series while SC was 1-1-1. Both swept the last place team in their division. The question is whether SC going 5-1 against Georgia and Miss St who are 13-23 in conference is better than LSU going 4-2 against A&M and Tennessee who are 17-19.

Doesn’t matter just get top 8 seed and let it play out

Tennessee showed that last year.

LSU had faced top 5 to top 15 teams in the country each of their first 5 SEC series and tied/won all of those series. Don’t give me that USCe has played tougher competition bullshite.
LSU hasn’t lost an SEC series yet. South Carolina has. That alone gives LSU the right to stay #1 over them for now.

SC has been superb at home this season with LSU giving them their only loss there to date.
I think the final three series for them are going to tell us how good they are: @UK, @Arky, and vs. UT.
LSU’s final series at UGA is certainly starting to look a little tougher with how the Dogs have been playing of late.

They have no point.
You are just blinded by fandom. Of course they have "a point".
They have a better record than us. More wins AND less losses. Both SEC AND overall. Even after losing a series to Vandy they still have a better SEC record than us. They are higher in RPI as well.
When you compare who was played, LSU gets the nod because we've had a tougher schedule, but that's the ONLY reason we're ahead.
If you can't see that, it's because you're not looking for the truth.

I guess it should be noted for the record..most of us know SC in fact swept Florida; however without the services of their closer all weekend Long due to the chicken shite SEC rules suspending unsportsmanlike Conduct 4 games...and his was subjective to say the least. Lord I detest defending Florida but at least taking one game with this yah hoo may have been possible if not likely. It's bb and it happens. Rank doesn't matter rn and they're east so.. still a good team and bless their hearts for crawfishing out of 3 games with us.

South Carolina has had a tougher schedule than LSU so far and has a better record.
Their record is because they were scared to play us in game 3. Some chicken (or rooster) type shite.
Did they play 4 ranked teams to start the season and win the series against all of them? You can’t call our series a win or a loss. So they didn’t beat us, lost to Vandy. I’d say they DONT have a case until they play the back end of their sheculenwho is almost all of who we’ve played.

Who cares ? Make them #1 .no argument really if either team is #1 . Both have done plenty . A lot season left also . I’m excited to see how it plays out

Record against 1-25 RPI teams: LSU 5-3 SC 8-3
Record against 26-50 RPI teams: LSU 5-3 SC 8-2
Those are games, which is not ultimately what matters in baseball. Series matter. And four team brackets matter. USCe has dropped a series and LSU has not. I don’t think this overwhelms your argument. I just think it makes it debatable. Which team has done better, the one that has a slightly better game record, or the one with the undefeated series record?
