re: Gamecocks thinking they should be #1

They’ve played the easier SEC schedule thus far. They have Auburn, @ Kentucky, @ Arkansas, & TennerC left. LSU has Bama, @ Auburn, MS State, & @ Georgia left. They’ll likely lose 5 or 6 of those games while LSU will probably lose 4 or less of their remaining.

I’d tell them baseball is 9 innings and leading 16/18 don’t mean shite

So what you're saying is that they have a great argument if it was banana ball?
No I'm saying they have an argument for why they should be ranked #1 in the country.

Only if it's banana ball or a skins game.

They have played a tougher schedule than us and are annihilating pretty much everyone.
I’m not sure I’d agree with that. Both are 5-3 against currently ranked conference foes, but LSU is 2-0-1 in series to 1-1-1 for SC. LSU is also 4-2 against Tennessee (who will be ranked next week) and A&M who is 9-9 in conference. Those are tougher series than SC’s other conference series. LSU also beat ranked Texas non-conference with both teams having 2 non-conference losses. I agree the resumes are close, but LSU has played the tougher schedule so far.

No. They don’t have an argument. They’ve lost a weekend series. LSU hasn’t. It’s cut and dry

They statistically have had a tougher schedule than us. Look at any website. NCAA, D1 baseball, Warren Nolan will all tell you that.
I'm not mad that LSU is number #1. But I'm objective enough to realize that South Carolina has an extremely strong argument for that ranking as well.

It's not up for debate, they've played a tougher schedule than us.

Vandy beat SC 2/3
Tennessee swept Vandy
Tennessee should be ranked #1 based off of what they did this weekend, right? That is what the SC fans want. Only what happened this week matters.

What are you talking about? Again, for the ENTIRE season, they have a better SOS, RPI, overall record, and SEC record than us.

So their non-conference patsies have a better record. They still didn’t pose a real challenge. The question is the number of actual challenging opponents played. The top of LSU’s schedule has been tougher.

Umm… I would say our schedules are somewhat equal; but no.

The only reason we are even talking about this is because they dodged us in game 3 in Columbia…..period

Sure it’s up for debate. Do you really think UM Lowell, Penn, and Bethune-Cookman posed a legitimate threat to SC? Taking 2 of 3 against Clemson is at best a wash with LSU taking 2 of 3 from Texas, Iowa and KSU. Both have one midweek loss. The SOS non-conference may favor SC, but the accomplishments are pretty much the same.
In conference, both are 5-3 against currently ranked teams, but LSU will be adding a series win over Tennessee to that total come tomorrow. That’s 3 series wins and a draw over ranked opponents for LSU vs 1-1-1 for SC. That’s a clear advantage for LSU. SC only has a better conference record because they have two sweeps over teams at the bottom of the conference. LSU just completed a sweep of the only bottom feeder they have faced. There’s no advantage there.

Computer numbers don’t show the entire story. Computers say that Tennessee has a sub .500 record in the SEC so they must be below average. We’ll see how SC does when they match up with them.
Lsu has been consistently great all season, and that’s dealing with missing pitchers, and missing starters in the field/lineup. Many of those players are coming back, or already have, to the lineup and mound. LSU has won every weekend series while playing with one arm tied behind their back.
