From 9 quarters of shut out ball to pretty much universal concern about the D

Not sure what that says. Probably just that we need to get a better quality of cupcakes.
It does seem like a lot of the yards against us have come on long runs caused by people being out of position. Maybe if that can somehow be corrected the D will improve significantly

rent a wins are fool's gold. when you play real teams you see where you are.

Who didn't see this from the beginning?

Our problems on Defense are at 3 positions - the 2 DTs and MLB. We also regularly have our safeties out of position on run support.
I have no idea why the middle of the field is so wide open for us when teams run there. It is ridiculous.
We all know that if we cannot stop the run, we will get abused. That is what has happened.

The 2 quality teams as miles calls them , pretty much ran all over the defense, not sure why Wisconsin stopped running in 2nd half but until then they put up some yards on the ground. Defense is way off from what I am use to seeing the last 2 years. Not sure if it's talent , lack of experience. , or coaching

It means we shut out ULM and Sam Houston St. Why people thought that would somehow translate into us being dominant in the SEC I have no idea.

Me personally, I don't count rent-a-win stats when evaluating a player or the team as a whole. I look at these "contests" as spring training games.

Do you count them for other teams?

let's compare the defense to actualy SEC opponents. shut outs against lower tier schools mean nothing. it's a glorified practice.

Wisconsin is just as good as most SEC opponents.

it definitely helped. i will give some credit to our D though.
basically i'm saying the shut out ball against inferiors was the exception, not the norm. the norm is last yr and 3 qtrs vs Wisc and 3.5 qtrs vs State.

No credit to Chavis or our D. Tards.

The middle is open because Chavis' 4-2-5 scheme has been figured out. It works good against TAMU and passing offenses but not so much against a multi faceted team like Moo State or a power run like Wisco. Look what Prescott and Co. did to get those advantages... they spread the defense out (5 receivers) forcing LB's to move into coverage positions on the perimeter. That forces a safety to make the choice to either come up or to stay back 15-20 yards to cover a receiver cutting deep across the middle. All you need is a good block on a DT and someone to occupy the DE and it's a hole even Harvey Williams grandmother could run through
Also Welter is not very good, he can be faked out very easily at pre snap.

Defensive schemes can be figured out, just like offensive ones. The LSU defense can be run on. Look at any good power rushing team over the last 3-4 years. They have had success. Unless that changes, LSU will lose 4 more games this year.
