Friend of mine's thought/idea: Put Mingo on Trent Richardson as a spy

good idea in your opinion? There were times when he hurt LSU catching the football out of the backfield from McCarron.

With Mingo's speed, I think this might not be a bad idea. In fact, I remember that he ran down Trent from behind on one of his longer runs of the game, like 25-30 yards or so.

i don't think we'll blow assignments this time which allowed him to run free from the backfield.

Why would we use a DE to spy a rb?

I say we do the exact same thing we did when we held Bama to 6 points a few months ago.

Let HB7 or Brooks.

Pretty decent tacklers, could cause a turnover with the amount of times TR gets the ball.

Simon could easily play CB with Mo across the way.

Is he faster than our LBs? Wouldn't surprise me.

Anyway, I think if we lose it's either going to be b/c our QB has a terrible game or our LBs don't rise to the challenge of Trent. You can bet our LBs will be Bama's focus after what UGA did in the 1st half this week.

What makes you think that?

We did literally every game all year. Our linebackers can't cover.

If we do that, we'll allow more than 6 points.

The LBs handled the challenge of TR fine on November 5th so it shouldn't be a problem in January.

As for letting Mingo spy TR I don't think it's a good idea. Let Mingo do what he does best which is rush the passer

37 cant cover. Literally a liability in coverage on every snap he is in the game.

Better idea would be to keep Ron Brooks on him. He's solid in coverage, quick, and he hits hard. Keep TM7 and Mo C at the corners and let Mingo do what he does best and get pressure on McCarron.

ETA: I would like to see a bit more bump & run on the edges. Our corners got beat on the short routes last time. Play em close and throw off those quick slants and timing routes.

This is what Baker did in OT.
Chavis basically put him in man-to-man.

He was beat by a few steps on the incompletion near the sideline, but the close coverage forced a tough throw.

We gone win!

Karnell Hatcher will own the crap out of TR3 as a spy. Question is, will he go pro next season?

He was their leading receiver last time, bro. Not a very novel concept to spy the the opponent's best player.

You don't really "spy" any position but QB.

And a "spy" is there in lieu of the QB taking off and running in an un-designed manner.

There is no need to "spy" on Richardson, because any attempt to get the ball to him will be designed.

We simply need to cover him.

Yeah, I don't think anyone knows what a spy is...
