This worries me in two ways. I worry that he’s to the point he wants to try and he walks when not given the chance or he’s given the chance, doesn’t do well and gets fired causing us to lose him.

What kind of logic says you have to be a DC before you get your first DC job?
You have to look at the current situation here.

Understand, if LSU doesn't win the title last year, O is unemployed today. He's used every last inch of slack to survive, he doesn't have the room to experiment anymore.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

Ever since Arnsparger left and the players lobbied hard for Mike Archer to get the HC job (when up and comers like Steve Spurrier and Mack Brown were reportedly interested) I have never thought any player movement (past or present) should be considered anything more than an opinion.

If O thinks he's ready, let Raymond interview just like everybody else.

Give him the safety's back. There was more continuity on the back end when they all listen to one voice prior to Busch arriving.

Now I'm neither for nor against Raymond being DC but if Wisconsin had the same logic as some on this board none of us would know who Jim Leonard is. He had no prior history of being DC at a lower level program, and now he might be one of hottest names in college football.

LSU football hasn’t “interviewed” for hires since Alleva took over the athletic department

Of course man I get it. My argument is against the logic of excluding him out of hand based on this alternate form of reason. I think giving him a shot instead of hiring someone like Pelini was what should’ve happened and I’d love to see him get a shot here before we lose him but I also agree that if we can get a top shelf DC we should do that over hiring Raymond now. But if we find ourselves in the same type of scenario again Raymond should get his shot over some washed up retread who hasn’t fielded a good unit in a decade. Betting on a sure loser is infinitely worse than betting on inexperienced but talented.

I wish they would have fired Bo early in the season and give Raymond the keys and see what he could do, but I just can’t see giving the keys to someone who has never been a DC. I love Raymond but can’t justify that.

If players want a coach and believe in him, I’m inclined to agree.

It worked out for Mizzou, with Barry Odom. What could go wrong?

He also lost a percentage of the locker room over the social justice/Fox/Trump stuff. Hiring CR might mend some of those fences.

If you don’t have the locker room, Bellicheck won’t help you on defense.

The ex players are boxing O into a corner with this hire.

That’s not why he was passed over. If Arnsparger would’ve been given the AD job Spurrier would’ve come here.

That’s ridiculous coach o would be putting a noose around his neck if he would make that decision.

I think he has what it takes. He’s coached under some of the best. It’s not like he’s masterminding some entirely new way to coach defense. Unlike Pelini, it sounds like the kids want to play for him.

Players are horrible judges of who should be the Coach. There are countless examples of this

Johnny Jones is a prime example of this just at LSU
