Was this just a long con by his handlers knowing Michigan was not going to be good this year and it would drive his price up the further he held out.
absolutely...LSU got played...I am actually glad that LSU didn't try to match the Michigan offer.

this is NOT what NIL was supposed to be.

NIL was supposed to be about players getting paid for their name on jerseys, autograph sessions, pictures on billboards, TV commercials, etc.

Not the straight-out buying of players.

College football, with the current NIL situation and the free-transfer portal, is in bad shape. It's just a pro league now, but even worse, since players can jump from team to team EVERY year.

Hell, look at TJ Finley: LSU, Auburn, Texas State, Western Kentucky. He's just one example, of many.

Sums it up nicely.

Yep, and if they don't win the NC/Heisman, they're going to look, I don't know if foolish is the right word, but something.

On one hand it's great to have a recruit like that in your pipeline, on the other, if you're the Michigan coach, the pressure just got dialed up to 11.

There's nothing to prove that LSU got played. It seems like this was a case of Michigan having more money than we do. Nothing to get mad at the kid for. The number and opportunity was too good to pass up. Best wishes, unless we play against him.

There is something rotten about the kid’s dad involved saying “I don’t want to have to work again.”

I know that’s been going on since Bear Bryant was dropping sacks of money from airplanes in recruits’ pastures when he was at A&M. But still, this is not what NIL is about.

I’m not a Gordon McKernan fan and he’s a pauper compared to Ellison, but Gordon does NIL the right way—“hiring” the players and using their name-image-likeness in his business.

That’s a cultural problem in today’s sports world. You have these parents, handlers, etc all thinking they can additionally live off of their children’s rookie contract and it’s never a modest living.

No child should have to subsidize their parents lifestyle if they’re in their 40s.

Not only that but he'll just have his CPA's figure out away to use it as a tax write off.

You can't get 95% of the idiots here to understand that no matter how much evidence is shown or posted. It just sucks that all this went down at the last minute with signing day right around the corner.

The situation seems simple enough. They were happy with LSU unless Michigan had an offer too big to refuse.

The kid has an agent. He was always going to the highest bidder. LSU was just his first pit stop. He probably was looking elsewhere regardless of the money after seeing the current state of the program. He wants zero part of the Kelly / Sloan offense.

there is also nothing to prove otherwise...I find it more plausible that in this new NIL era, his handlers knew that Michigan had deeper pockets and as we got closer to signing day, they would sweeten the deal.

NIL is a giant scam. It is not NIL at all in many cases. It is just pay for play.

No they didn't. It's becoming obvious this all fell in place behind the scenes with Portnoy & the Ellison's over the last few weeks. The Underwood's had invested too much time & effort for this to be some long drawn out con like some are suggesting.

The trips to campus were numerous. Underwood had just been in Baton Rouge a few weeks ago for the LSU game.

Bryce played 7 on 7 this past summer with other commits on team coached by Ryan Clark.

Underwood will be in Orlando this weekend with his new team, LSU legend Ryan Clark to serve as head coach.

Now, he'll be alongside several LSU commits this weekend in Underwood, Berry and Keylan Moses. Moses, who has been a lead recruiter for this class, is prepared to work his magic once again for the Tigers.

Hard to compete with Barstool and Larry Ellison. Every single school in the nation would have been in the same boat as us. Just an unfortunate situation. The real loser is the kid who didnt get to attend his dream school because he needed the money more.

Even with Brady's assistance, Michigan doubted as recently as a week ago that it could flip Underwood, who had been committed to LSU since January. At the time, the Wolverines believed the nation's top quarterback in the 2025 class would likely stick with the Tigers.

However, the tide began to turn after a pivotal family discussion last weekend. During that conversation, Underwood and his family weighed the pros and cons of Michigan and LSU. Michigan, despite its 5-5 record, appeared more appealing than LSU, which has slumped to 6-4 following three consecutive losses. The idea of becoming a hometown hero for a school just 30 minutes from his home in Belleville, Michigan, also carried significant weight.

The final pieces fell into place earlier this week when Underwood made a secret visit to Michigan on Tuesday and Wednesday. He shadowed head coach Sherrone Moore at practice, sat in on meetings, and gained deeper insights into the program. By Wednesday, Underwood privately informed Moore of his plans to commit. A day later, Underwood made his decision public, catching even his high school coach by surprise.

Like many of us, Calvin Norman learned of the news when he checked his phone on Thursday. It was official to the world: Bryce Underwood, the nation's No. 1 recruit, was flipping his commitment from LSU to Michigan.

"I really thought he was going to stay at LSU," said Norman, Underwood's coach at Belleville (Mich.) High School. "I was shocked at the flip."

quote:

"They told us they wanted Bryce [in the past]. We'll come to the campus and do 7-on-7 [in the summer]. But them coming to the school showing that kind of interest, we didn't see them."

"They [Michigan] were, like, going more down South to find more players instead of having what they have in their backyard," Bryce Underwood said in September.

CBS Sports recently chronicled Underwood's journey, and we learned that Michigan came in late after the quarterback had been committed to LSU.

Will be hilarious to watch if the kid sucks, Sharrone sucks, or if something happens and the kid just doesn’t pan out or the program continues to slip

Michigan football is now owned by the whims of a middle aged woman and her mega rich husband
