comparing pro to college

lets see who else sucked as a HC in pros? erickson? spurrier? Saban? Urban? and all won nattys in college.

only 3 coaches won nattys and a SB. jimmy johnson, barry switzer and pete carroll.

College football and pro football aren't nearly as different as they used to be.

I like the hire. He's fine. Just don't blow smoke up our asses telling us the Dline is improving b/c they're was no evidence of improvement vs bama. Get an assistant coach who can teach them technique and/or get better defensive linemen.

Honestly, we need to nail the DC hire this offseason and the rest will fall into place. We are impatient but the returns on offense in Season 2 more than speak for themselves.

House has millions in the bank and will find a job easily in the NFL. There should be no reason to keep him another season.

Lincoln Riley is all offense, no defense like BK

Kelley has had much better defenses throughout his career than Lincoln Riley. Defense is obviously bad this year, but that isn’t what you see from BK teams historically. They haven’t been elite top 5 defenses by any means, but no where near as bad as a Riley coaches team. I personally think he’ll make the needed changes to get it fixed.

Kelly could prove to be a good hire but these kinds of arguments are stupid:

It isn't fair to trash the hire if you can't present a better alternative.

As if there never ever was or will be a better coach than Kelly that LSU could hire and because of that we can’t criticize or fire him. People used the same logic to deflect criticisms of Miles and then Orgeron plus a whole slew of assistants . They all turned out to be replaceable.

Hard question to answer without knowing who LSU reached out to and who reached out to LSU. With that being said I’d rather have Kelly from the names that people say were the only ones who were in the running. I also find it hard to believe that minus a few of the top top names, everyone else was probably interested in coming to LSU.

UM isn't NFL coaching material, just as Saban wasn't. At 59, I'm very confident he still has it in him. I personally think he wanted to get away from all the drama that was UF. Go look at the players he had on those teams. That would be one of the highest watched 30 For 30's.

UM still has at least another good 10 years of coaching in him. NFL guys are very difficult to deal with and lots of college coaches have all sorts of problems making that leap. But in college, he's no doubt one of the best. LSU would probably see it's best years of sustained success in program history under UM. He knows how to recruit, he's an SEC caliber coach, titles at multiple schools, and has had outstanding offenses absolutely EVERYWHERE he's been.

With the state of the program and title IX issues Urban would not have worked. No doubt he will do well at his next college program

It's a fair question. I am not on the BK train yet, but I admit outside of Riley there wasn't a better choice.

He was the safest hire.

I think BK was a fantastic hire, and has done well in his first 2 seasons.

That said, Lane Kiffin maybe?

I liked Riley a lot, but his USC teams looking exactly like his OU teams has me doubting his ability to ever get it done in CFB.

Eta: Aranda was a popular Choice at the time. If I had to collectively rank the Rant/Coaching changes want at the time, it was:

1.Riley
2a. Napier
2b. Aranda
3. Kiffin

(Kelly wasn’t on anyone’s radar)
(Fisher was an option than hardly any fans wanted this go-around)

All that said, we made a great hire in Kelly. Let’s hope it works out… so far, looking good. He definitely has exceeded expectations in the first 2 years, although he probably sent the expectations a little too high after overachieving in year1, which in the long run is still a good thing.
