He runs zone reads with a QB that doesn’t pull. That’s 100% on Sloan for not building around his QB
Elite OCs adapt to their personnel. Sloan has not.

Yes Sloan needs to draw up better run play schemes that is apparent but he has a turnover prone statue qb who is easy to fool
everything people spent 2 weeks screaming for we saw
reverse, counters, direct snaps outside zone runs.
literally all of it was there last night.
Williams just isn’t explosive.
Durham is hurt
Jackson tried to take a pop pass and got his arse sat down.

Nuss is just mentally done. He’s been asked to do too much this year. But who are you going to put in? Swann? Collins? Hurley? There’s a reason Nuss is our starter. It’s bc he gives us the best option to win.
I do agree that he has been asked to do too much, but when a guy is turning the ball over that much, the backup should be an option to come in even if for just a series to try and spark something or for Nuss to be able to look at the field while the backup is in and maybe take a few things in that he might be missing when he is out there.
If the backups are so bad that they are not an option whatsoever no matter how bad Nuss plays, then BK and the QB coach have failed in recruiting and development. aTm certainly used their backup a few weeks ago for a spark.

Sloan kept Denbrocks scheme and is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole with Nuss running that scheme. It’s on him and BK to not have made schematic adjustments for a QB that apparently refuses to run the ball. If he is not good enough to adjust his offense when he had an entire offseason to do so then it’s on them to not have a QB that can run the ball ready to play.
BK is the real problem here though. He makes the hires and sets the tone for this team. He is failing bigly in year 3.

Sloan’s play calling sequence leaves a lot to be desired, but he’s handcuffed by the fact that we have zero ability to run the football. Teams are stopping the run with a 5 man box and dropping everyone else into coverage. No one is open because of it. This teams problems offensively all start here.
This is not an excuse for Nussmeir but being in the stadium and being able to see the entire field really illustrates this. There is a A LOT of traffic in the intermediate (11 -19 yards downfield) passing game.

LSU is a premier coaching gig, but we hired a nobody who has never called plays and is OJT for the position.

It's almost like fans realize Sloan has been Garrett's QB coach for 3 years and is currently the OC.
Anything and everything with Nuss development is on Sloan
oh so does Sloan get the same credit for the Heisman Trophy winning QB they had too? or was that Denbrock?

Jayden worked his arse off, including with a private QB coach separate from LSU. I think with Nuss lack of development any person with common sense would question how much he contributed to Jayden's success.

I think thisnis partially true but at the same time, Nuss is leaving plays out on the field
and he doesn’t need to be perfect but he’s been far from perfect.

This!! Against Ole Miss we pick up 7yds running on the 1st play of the game but then don’t attempt another run for 3 series!

It's not apparent to him obviously. Also, he continues to take Durham out after big runs and runs into a brick wall with Williams like he did last night on our first drive.
The plays we have called coming out of timeouts really stand out as laughable. And yes, I know Nuss limits him, but good God, help your guys out some with an imaginative play calls when you have more time to think coming out of a timeout (which we do a lot with how many times Nuss burns timeouts).
Agree with everything you said. He does Nuss no favors with the play calling. It is imperative that Kelly demotes him after the season is over and bring in an experienced OC from a P5 school. It would be in Underwood's best interest if he hopes to play in a dynamic offense that will make the most out of his talents. Sloan isn't the guy who will do that.

Is. Rad Davis just a guy who can recruit but not develop his players?
Posted on 11/10/24 at 10:55 am to Cd104
I blame Doug Jr and Brian Kelly

It's a fair question.

yeah man if only our qb coach was better
I find it hard to believe anything other than experience and hard work on JDs part helped him make the jump. No way Sloan or BK made that difference.

Sloan has no plan, he has no setup. No play opens up another. His sequencing is predictable (throw, run, throw). He forces his QB to make down the field throws too often with plays that have nothing underneath. He has zero feel for the game. His run designs are telegraphed, slow developing, and nothing hits hard going down hill.
There's really nothing Sloan does well as an OC and he makes the game really difficult on his players. Asking Madden which play it recommends would yield better results.

Before the red zone interception, we ran the ball for one yard with Josh Williams. Why isnt your best back who can break tackles not in the game ? Why wasn’t Durham in ?

You are the first to basically say it, but for 4 games I’ve noticed that if there is an incompletion on 1st down, the next play is a run and almost always leaves 3rd and 8. In the last 3 games for sure this has happened without exception. I thought maybe the “self scouting” off week would help them see it. Maybe they did and just want to get something short of 3rd and 10, but at least on occasion you have to do something different. I’m not anti Sloan, but I do think his inexperience is showing.
