Yes. Especially in the years before that. When you look at pictures of the stadium during the Huey Long era and the few decades after that, you see plenty people in suits. Same with Mardi Gras parades.
You said this was the early 1970s. That was toward the end of that practice.
And very few people wore LSU shirts and jerseys to the games back then.

Yeah, we wore sports coats. Didn’t really mind because you can carry your hard liquor in flask in coat upper pockets to mix with your coke or 7-up,

Games started at 8 for the longest time. Changed about 73 I think. (Our late final scores missed the east coast deadlines, so they moved to 7.) So games in Oct November were cool. No school colors. But you wore ribbons and badges etc and corsages for the ladies, all in purple and gold.

Remember going to games as a kid in the seventies and getting home in time to watch the highlights on the ten o’clock news , and we didn’t leave early .

These days the worse people dress the more money they have. It’s bizarre

Mass production of team branded apparel likely blew up in the mid 80s and it took off from there.
My absolute favorite attire for an LSU Football Game!

I remember those band uniforms. Instead of crap piped in music during the games, the band members used to dance to the drum beat and choreograph designed turnarounds which looked cool with the front of the uniform being white and the back gold. Oh for the good old days of band music.

Absolutely. People dressed up for fb games, the movies and eating out.

We still dress decent for games unless it’s scorching hot. Preference is jeans boots and a polo/qtr zip

<——Two out of three of those I agree.

The last one usually works best if done in the buff.

People dressed like that for most everything. You didn’t get on an airplane in shorts or even jeans. Different times for sure.

I wish the hats would make a comeback.

The Band uniforms until the late 70's were purple. Then it finally dawned on someone that "The Golden Band From Tigerland" should wear gold.

When did 67500 become 100k?

For the poster claiming more fights back in the day. When some drunk spills his drink on your suit, or your wife’s best dress, what would you do? Now days, you’ve already spilled bourbon on your jersey at the tailgate.

I was a student in the sixties. Coat and tie was standard. I remember fixing a buddy up with a date with a girl I knew that had just moved back from California. He picked her up in coat and tie, and she looked like a dirty hippie chick. Shocker.

Wearing a suit and tie is miserable generally, at least relative to wearing a golf shirt and shorts.

You should try getting a properly fitted suit. There’s nothing at all uncomfortable about that. It’s really no different than a golf shirt and shorts if it fits.

I’m not that old but I think it’s common knowledge that how classy people dress has fallen off a cliff. Was probably about the time people stopped dressing like that.

Just because you dress nice doesn't means you're classy. Classy is behavior over appearance!!
