We're not competing with the SEC. To keep him we'll have to pay a blueblood salary and it still may not be enough if one of the elites comes calling.

Cuonzo makes 20% more than Wade.

That isnt minor.

This is Cuonzo's third P5 job. He had a bigger baseline when he was hired. Wade will catch up in short order.

Most overpaid coach ever. That dude has scammed the shite out of Kentucky.

Hmmmm

He's won 82% of his games at Kentucky and in his 8 years he's done the following:

1 Round of 32
1 Sweet 16
2 Elite 8's
2 Final Fours
1 National Runner Up
1 National Championship

Won the SEC 5/8 years, 2nd twice.

He's literally been to the Final Four 4/8 years he's been at UK. That is absurd.

ETA:

Coach K in those same 8 years:

2 Round of 64
1 Round of 32
3 Sweet 16's
2 Elite 8's
2 National Titles

They are right in line with each other in tournament win % and K has two titles to Cal's 1, but have been to same amount of title games. Cal has reached at least the Final Four twice as many times in that period (4 v. 2) than Coach K has.

He obviously should get a big raise if we win the West

Hasn’t the SEC not had divisions for basketball for the last 7 or 8 seasons?

Thank you OP for showing that Will Wade gets paid 9th highest in the conference. I think he’s owed the “relatively minor raise” to correct these “salary inequities”.

Why not? LSU gave O an extension and no other program is even close to trying to poach him.

We don't need to give him a raise, just for the sake of giving him a raise. If other teams come calling, then you pay the man. If he begins to sniff around, and pay is the issue, you pay the man.

Give him a raise so he doesn’t sniff around. Another 500-750k puts him in the top 3/4 in the league where he needs to be if we want to hold on to him. He gets paid less then Drew and White who have zero skins on the wall and Cuonzo Martin who is the epitome of mediocre with one fluke sweet 16

Give him a raise and some security.

Men's basketball is the consensus #2 college sport, can be extremely profitable, and for most universities it's the #1 sport.
We've treated it like a stepchild for about a decade, which is truly mind-boggling. Some people say "but baseball"... at least 90% of schools don't even give a shite about baseball. It'd be like Michigan ignoring basketball because they have a good hockey team.

LSU can and should be a ranked team in basketball. That only helps the overall athletic program. Wade appears to have them back.

Give Wade the best facilities in the conference. I’m pretty sure that would give him more pleasure than a little bump in pay.

Thanks for posting that. There's a few differences in that and the list I posted, but close to the same. Biggest difference is it lists Cuonzo at 2.7 instead of the 3.0 I had.

Documents: LSU's six-year contract with Will Wade worth $15 million

quote:

It took a whopper of a contract to land Will Wade.

LSU's new men's basketball coach signed a six-year deal worth $15 million ($2.5 million per year), and both sides are on the hook for the entire amount.

The contract does not include a buyout. Wade, 34, would owe the school his remaining salary if he were to leave for another job, and the school would owe him the entire amount if he were to be fired.

quote:

Wade's contract also calls for $150,000 more in academic and athletic incentives than Jones' deal did. Wade's total incentives package is worth $800,000. The additional incentives include recognition for national and conference coach of the year awards.

We should let the season play out before making any decisions. Charlie/Skip made a great point yesterday about sustained success. Not just a year or two here or there, but making the tourney 4 years in a row.

What is it about this board that makes posters throw all caution to the wind when it comes to supporting our gamble of a football coach but then we become incredibly cautious when it comes to our far less risky basketball coach

We’re in our second year of measured success with Will Wade, we knew he had potential when we hired him, I’m ready to give him the PMAC upgrades and a moderate raise since we’re doing all of that for CEO already
