has Oklahoma become the new Auburn game for LSU?

I hope you realize that we only have SEC schedules for 24 and 25?

The 26 and beyond schedules have yet to be written. It all depends on if Disney/ESPN will pony up for the 9th conference game. Based on ratings on just the first three weeks, the suits will cough it up and we will have a 9 game schedule. I hope they go with 3 perm, 6 rotating or no perms (But Gumps declare the world will stop turning if they don't play Tenn)

Am I off base here? They haven’t beaten LSU since 2018. That streak includes some really bad LSU teams. Even the games being at the swamp doesn’t seem to intimidate LSU like it once did. I’m not arguing that Florida is no longer a rival I’m just saying as of late that game just doesn’t move the needle anymore.

I think what’s missing with Florida being down is the national focus on the game. It was the Bama/LSU game for several years there before Saban came back and made them good. Was always either the CBS 2:30 game or one of the ones they flexed to play in prime time. So, it’s certainly not a marquee matchup nationally and not one we currently worry about until it gets here, but they’re still Florida and it’s still a big game.

I do worry a bit about the juice they may get from a potential interim coach. I hope they wait until after the season to fire Billy. As bad as they are, they’re still Florida, the game is still in the Swamp, and we can’t just roll our helmets out there and play like shite and sleepwalk our way to a win. If we continue to get better and come out prepared and focused, we could put the game away early and make them give up. But if we play sloppy and let them hang around and stay in the game, crazy shite happens in this matchup, so who knows. But we have no business not beating them handily.

A&M has replaced Florida as “that team” on our schedule. Especially on the road considering we haven’t won there since 2016.

Hmmmm. Doesn’t really feel that way to me.
Just don’t have nearly the history of big games with A&M to think of them like that.
Yet, anyway.

Side note: sucks that Auburn isn’t on the schedule anymore

Totally agree. Was my favorite game every year.

has Oklahoma become the new Auburn game for LSU? That’s what it is feeling like.

When they change the format in ‘26, if A&M and Oklahoma remain permanents, I think the A&M game will eventually start to feel like the Auburn game does now, and the OU game will start feel like the A&M game, because it looks like they’re gonna try to make that the last game of the season/Thanksgiving weekend game that A&M has been the last decade or so.

(I will love that when they fire Sunbelt Billy and hire Dan Lanning though)

Based on the current landscape of CFB, I might argue that Oregon is a top 3 job in football. Lanning ain’t going anywhere.

Gaytors probably felt the same about LSU in the 90s when the HBC was dropping half a hundred on the Tigers routinely.

These series go in streaks over time.

They are still a team I would like to kick while they’re down.

LSU has every chance to lose at Florida notwithstanding Florida tanking.

They owe us for beating them in 2021 in Baton Rouge during LSU's tanked season.

Brian Kelly already showed the path to losing a tanked game @ Texas A&M in 2022.

It's all cyclical. They could easily turn back into a national power in just few years. Tennessee was down for over a decade and now they are looking like a strong program. Although it's shocking that a program like Florida has hit this low of a rock bottom, it certainly won't last forever.

Once they hire the right guy they’ll be back

They don’t even have to leave their own state to recruit

I hate those bastards.

It will always be a marquee game.

Just because a hated team is bad it doesnt take off the luster of beating the frick out of them.

I have greatly enjoyed Florida's misery.

I’d say wait until Lagway gets going and Napier gets gone… they might be a different team then. One of those guys looks like he’ll be pretty good; the other one? Results haven’t been in his favor so far

I could not care less if we ever play Florida.

I am really wondering if the SEC admins will vote to go to 9 conference games a year. In that setup, the year you play 5 SEC road games (and only 4 at home) can be a big disadvantage.

By the time we play them it could be with an interim HC and the FR QB who has potential. The more reps he gets, the better he is going to be. It will not be an easy game in the swamp.

You mean '92-'23 right? Having to play Florida every year under Spurrier was absolutely brutal.

Florida used to be giant enough that they could hire the wrong coach and still win.

I am not sure about this. There is so much competition for players both in-state and others coming in and cherry picking. You have seen the reemergence of Miami and the rise of UCF. FSU is still an enigma.

Would you have said that LSU isn't a marquee game for Alabama when they were beating us every year?

No, but then again I remember quite a few of those games going down to the wire. That was the most frustrating part of that rivalry - that it seemed like we had a chance to win, but somehow always managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.
