Texas A&M vs. LSU would be an awesome season opener for our LSU Tigers. Thoughts?

Absolutely NOT. It is hot as hell in CS and we have been down that path for 8 years as I recall losing the last 5

Every year I was there. Was fabulous but also were not in the SEC yet, so a bit different scenario. Still wear my 'Aggieculture' T-shirt from time to time.

A&M should be the first SEC game every year, maybe even as a thursday night primetime kickoff for the whole CFB FBS season
Auburn, Miss St, and Florida should be the next conference teams on the schedule
Ole Miss should be Halloween
Alabama the first weekend of November
Tulane the final game of the year on the Saturday after thanksgiving
A&M and Texas should play on Thanksgiving day

Yeah...I really like the idea of a day game in college station in early September

It’s hell on earth in that Stadium in early September. I went back in 93. It was easily 120 degrees on the field that day.

Tulane a regular game? Get real. Will never happen. This crap always comes from LSU fans; the weenies are not pounding on the door, demanding a game. They've never sold their ticket allotments for games in Tiger Stadium.

It’d be nice for LSU to have a real in state rival. There were a lot of cool traditions which built up from the LSU vs Tulane rivalry. I think that it would be good for both programs for that game to mean something again. TBH, I DGAF if that game is NEVER played in Tiger Stadium. I just like maintaining traditional rivalries.

I want a cool game to look forward to to start every season and some pageantry to end every season. Also, I have no interest in playing Arkansas on Black Friday

I made the trip to CS for one of those September games (late 80’s). Sat in endzone on metal bleachers. Came back to BR after a butt whipping as red as a boiled crawfish.

I’m with you. Hard Pass.

There's some caveats:

1) Back in the 50s/ 60s the season didn't start til the 3rd week of September. The torrid temps of summer had subsided by then.

2) The game between the two rivals was always played in Baton Rouge before 1987.

3) Global warming hadn't yet kicked in back then. Less chance for a game canceled, postponed or change of venue for a tropical system.

Ladies, A&M has lights now. Someone is going to open the college football season, why not us.

By the way, I posted this on the SEC Rant. It’s an idea that needs to be explored.

I like the permanent opponents idea, but nobody but this board is even discussing that idea.

My take:

LSU - Alabama, A&M, and Ole Miss
Alabama - Auburn, LSU, Tennessee
Florida - Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State
A&M - LSU, Texas, South Carolina
Texas - Oklahoma, A&M, Arkansas
Oklahoma - Texas, Missouri, Arkansas
Arkansas - Texas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma
Tennessee - Alabama, Florida, Vandy
Ole Miss - LSU, Mississippi State, Arkansas
Mississippi State - Ole Miss, Auburn, Missouri
South Carolina - Georgia, Kentucky, A&M
Georgia - Florida, Auburn, South Carolina
Kentucky - Florida, South Carolina, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt - Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri
Missouri - Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma

*All major games with high TV ratings permanent.
*3 + 6 model. 9-game schedule.
*Play every SEC team every 2-years. Host every 4-years.

Hypothetical 2021 SEC Schedule

Week 1 Sept 4
LSU vs. A&M

Week 2 Sept 11
Arkansas vs. Texas

Week 3 Sept 18
South Carolina vs. Georgia

Week 4 Sept 25
Tennessee vs. Florida
Kentucky vs. South Carolina

Week 5 Oct 2
Florida vs. Kentucky

Week 6 Oct 9
Georgia vs. Auburn
Arkansas vs. Ole Miss
Oklahoma vs. Texas

Week 7 Oct 16

Week 8 Oct 23
Tennessee vs. Alabama

Week 9 Oct 30
Georgia vs. Florida
LSU vs. Ole Miss

Week 10 Nov 6
LSU vs. Alabama

Week 11 Nov 13

Week 12 Nov 20

Nov 25
Texas vs. Texas A&M

Week 13 Nov 27
Auburn vs. Alabama

One of Bama’s permanent opponents will be Vandy. That’s a fact.

And when the conference shuffles scheduling to incorporate the 2 new members, watch for an 8 year gap before Bama faces any team that’s been performing well.

Nite games at College Station are still too hot. Been there, sat in those seats for a 7:00 pm kickoff & was miserable. There have been day games in Sept. where the temp on the field was 100 deg.+. The aggies have no special appeal to me as an opponent anyway. As for tulane, forgetaboutit. There is no rivalry anymore, and hasn't been for decades. You're living in the far past. All it does is put LSU money in tulane's pockets, a school who tries to rape LSU fans every chance it gets when it involves ticket prices in N.O.

I don't want to lose the Florida game. It's been too much fun over the past ~25 years.

I’d much rather play our schedule like this:

A&M and Auburn in September.

Ole Miss and Florida in October

Bama in November.

All the rest sprinkled in there.
