will a top notch OC and offensive staff want to come here knowing how hot BK's seat is?

who gaf? why is it that cfb coaches are the only people that have immunity for getting canned for not being able to do their jobs?

What value would he add honestly? He speaks to boosters, maybe some top recruits but he doesn't actually coach anything. Demoting him would just keep him in an awkward position where he is a distraction and more than likely a negative influence on the program. You either get rid of him or you don't and hopefully he wants to coach elsewhere and is willing to negotiate his stupid buyout.

What monetary value is assigned to a program where fans and recruits have already mentally checked out? At least 20m just for bad mojo alone. Another year of everyone you know making Kelly jokes at crawfish boils and business meetings? It sucks all the oxygen out of Baton Rouge.

It’s not as simple as you are saying Cluckster. These are not buyouts paid out immediately, and most have offsets.

While most of the staff sucks, they will get other jobs pretty quickly as college football retreads are a major thing.

The offset will not make it $20 million for next year. Kelly’s is spread out over the life of the contract and with an offset.

The other thing to think about is you are going to have to invest more money into a team of mercenaries that know he’s likely to be fired in a year. That’s more guaranteed money you owe next season.

The crux of the buyout issue is always having to pay two parties.
you are paying two parties whether you fire him this year or next...the only reason to keep BK around next season is if you really think he can turn it around...

Right, but even one year of doing that is going to be close to the $20mil mark you mention.

correct, but you will lose millions due to fan apathy...at some point, it will cost you more to keep him around.

Surely someone can calculate the cost of a dead season, because that’s what lsu is doing if they bring back Kelly in 2026.

I don’t think anything happens until Rousse is officially announced as the new president. At the very least, Woodward will need his sign off on letting go BK.

I’m sure it can be done, but we will need to reach out to the casinos, children’s hospitals, and lawyers.

If you paid me $10MM a year I’d stay wherever no matter who hates me. At the end of the day I’m still counting my money win or lose. I could care less who hates me while I’m counting $10MM. I’m pretty sure BK feels the same way. Simply put if you gave me $10MM a year I’d cheer for whoever you asked me to. I wouldn’t have passion but I’d do it for the money!

absolutely incredible that he will be able to walk away with all 50+ million to not coach

part of me says to keep as coach just to watch him suffer, make his life a living hell and hold his feet by the fire, dgaf if we make a bowl or not.

dude straight up put the wool over many people’s (not mine) eyes

i’d have much more respect if he did like Carr for the saints and atleast reduced the payout some

Neither will you! It’s people like you that we will waste money year over year into per pituitary dealing with coaches that don’t work. I do get it though. That’s the going rate and contract you have to give proven coaches. LSU must now realize we aren’t on the same playing field as pre NIL days. We don’t have the state of Louisiana to relay on without paying top dollar. We need “moneyball” solutions and our AD has absolutely no clue how to do that!

AGAIN, I'm not saying KEEP Kelly. I'm saying there is a chance he takes a lesser buyout at the end of the season, if he see's there is no way for him to compete.

Fire Sloan, Davis, and Hankton today.

If you fire them and leave CBK in place, you have to pay them all a buyout.

But, If you fire CBK, contract says you DON’T pay his staff’s buyout.

It’d be cheaper to just fire everybody AND CBK right now if you know CBK is getting fired later on anyway. Do it all today, you save some money assistants’ buyouts.

Is A&M regretting firing Jimbo for $70MM??

No, BUT….$70MM to A&M is far less than $50MM to LSU. They have an endless stream of alumni cash.
