Explanation for “Piped-In Music”

I’ve attended 4 LSU home games since 2003, lastly attended the MSU game in 2022, Kelly’s first SEC game, so I haven’t attended enough games to understand the board’s complaints about “piped-in music.”
What exactly is “piped in music?”
-does it literally sound like ”piped in,” as in bad sound quality/cheap sound equipment?
-is this a reference to playlist that is usually selected by the players?
-or is it the stadium music is over played throughout the game?
-Lastly, is this a new college football problem across every NCAA venue or is this only an issue in Tiger stadium?
Just wanted some clarification since I see it complained about often during football season year in and year out.

Have had season tickets in the NEZ mainly because I wanted my kids to hear TGBFTL. Instead we hear and feel bass.
I’m not as negative about the environment as most, but it definitely isn’t what made LSU what it is (or used to be).

To add to what's already been said, it's played at a volume that's actually painful, at least in the NEZ.
There's also a randomness to it. During TV timeouts when they're making a presentation on the field, a bass line will start thudding for no reason.

I hate to sound like the old guy bitching but there’s 2 reasons why I no longer have tickets and attend the games and the DJ/Bass/Rap which detract from the damn fine band from TL and the tradition of Tiger Stadium.

I had an email exchange with Gordy Rush about this a few years ago. He and Charles were talking about it on the Thursday night show. I didn't get in so I emailed him the next day and he answered. He was cordial, but adamant that it's the way it is now and won't be changing any time soon. Never say never, but apparently the backlash they've gotten so far hasn't changed anybody's mind.
TLDR it's a feature, not a bug. All the stadium and arena event managers around the country communicate with each other and this is the environment they want. They think it will bring in a younger demographic. If it alienates the traditionalists they don't care.

I think piped in music necessary. I’ve been going to every home game for 30 years. The place used to be pack to gills screaming fans on every play. But that’s not the case anymore. Big games only time it happens. Basically people are not going to the games like they used to so you need to fill the void. Just a band is outdated

Disagree…respectfully. I think you can use it a little bit to add some energy. It’s WAY too loud in the NEZ if you sit in the wrong spot.
I don’t think filling that void has any impact on how many people will show up. I think that music has a zero effect on attendance and demographic. I can’t imagine many people saying they will start attending and staying four quarters because a DJ played something awesome with 10 min to go against Mississippi State.

You are correct.
I would wager 75%+ of the fans in attendance would get rid of the piped in music if they could.
It is HORRIBLE!
I think a good compromise would be to play that crap during the 2 hour warmup up until the GBFTL takes the field, doing their pregame routine that kicks off with the 4 most chilling notes in college football
As a kid when I attended LSU games, you had the crowd, the band, and the PA announcer, and Tiger Stadium was deafening when it needed to be.
I remember the calls for a doctor to section xyz. The atmosphere was 100% better pre piped in music.
I would wager 75%+ of the fans in attendance would get rid of the piped in music if they could.

I think LSU would be wise to not turn off older fans. They are the ones who can afford to donate to the programs they support.

Based on what data?
The "younger demographic" camps out on their phones. I doubt they could care less if the artificial stuff was never heard from again.
ETA: who are the TS event managers? Did they 'grow up' in TS or are they just talented outsiders?

There are fans that only want to hear the LSU band play and nothing else. They want the student section and others to solely do every hand gesture and cheer on every down. Thats just not how the show operates anymore.
The game management staff likely has a coordinated list of songs to play for different moments and then try and mix in with the band. Maybe some people just hate rap and want more Latin flare.
There also is the levels of social media engagement the athletic department can get from various light shows, donations towards light up wristbands, etc.

The damn fine band plays over an hour of time from victory hill, pregame, halftime and 4th quarter and postgame.

Another problem is when the crowd does spontaneously get loud they crank up the piped in music on whatever preprogrammed schedule they're on and it immediately kills the vibe.

Absolutely. The piped in music is when we are on defense and stops before the ball is snapped. When it stops, there is no crowd noise and zero energy in the stadium.

No matter what you call it please end it. Most fans in the stadium don’t like it. Too loud and annoying. Let the band play.
