This just in, these people making these lists usually don't put in any effort. They copy and paste from the last season to meet a deadline.

When they can show that they can play defense this will change. Right now they cannot do that.

I seriously doubt LSU will make the CFP in 2024. I see us as maybe 9-3 in 2024. Our ascent will begin in 2025, IMO.

I think if the conference had stayed put we would probably be right there year in and out. If the SEC gets three teams it's going to be interesting. Georgia will be in, but with Texas and Oklahoma coming in, Ole Miss having a banner year in the portal, and the completely unknown that is Alabama next year, there will be four five teams fighting for the two spots in the SEC besides UGA.

Play 12 games next fall - then we'll all know.

I would be ecstatic if we somehow made it. I don’t think we’re there this year, and that’s ok.

I think this will be our “worst” year of the next 5-10 years. After this season, I hope we’re in almost every year and will expect to be.

People will melt, but I assume this is a small step back year. To be expected based on losing Jayden and defense likely not quite there yet.

Future is very bright though …

LSU's defense was complete shite last season. Yes, there is and entirely new coaching staff. Yes, we all THINK that will produce significant improvement. But until that actually happens the LSU defense is not going to get the benefit of the doubt. On offense LSU lost the Heisman trophy winner who, at times, was a one-man show offensively. No player in college football was more dynamic. Not even close. We all think Nussmeier can be good. But it's not reasonable to expect he will immediately step in an match Daniels' production. Aside from Daniels, BTJ and Nabers are gone. Both will be first round picks. Who knows? Daniels, Lacy, Hilton, etc could be just as good. But, again, they will have to prove it at LSU before they get the benefit of the doubt. Then, you take into account the OC of the #1 offense left after last season as well.

NONE of that means LSU can't make the CFP. It's just that I understand why people make be taking a wait-and-see approach. In year 1 expectations were low and Kelly exceeded them. In year 2 expectations were high and LSU blew them with a horrible defense. So no one can really be certain of what LSU will be.

Now, if you want to argue teams like Alabama and Michigan have similar uncertainties because of HC changes, I agree. But given both program's consistent level of success over the past 3 years or some compared to LSU that's probably why you see them get the benefit of the doubt in PREDICTIONS.

The good news is you don't have to get upset by it because it literally doesn't matter.

I don’t think this is the year we win it all, but I think it’s fair to expect a shot at the 12 team playoff.

Yes we do need a late transfer DT, but I think the offense has a chance to be very good + I can’t imagine that the defense is worse than last year with the assembled staff.

They won’t be the best defense in the country, but they may do enough to have us in position to win every game (assuming the offense reaches its potential).

That doesn't matter either...

The final scores are what matters.

This is probably an 8-4 year. The defense is still a huge liabilty. Ole Miss, Bama, UGA, and UT are more talented this year

these are the stats, from the past season, for what I believe will be the top 4 WRs at LSU next year (the 5th will be Shelton Sampson)

Daniels 55 rec 1067 yards 19.4 ypr 10 TD
Lacy 30 rec 558 yards 18.6 ypr 7 TD
Thomas 40 rec 503 yards 12.8 ypr 1 TD
Hilton 13 rec 225 yards 17.3 ypr 2 TD

Aaron Anderson can be unlocked in the slot, and TE Taylor will likely break LSU single season records for a TE.

I can understand downing us because of the defense, but did we just pick up scrub coaches? The LB position and the edge play should be amazing next year. I believe we'll find 6-7 guys out of the 20 DBs we have, to keep us at least not a frantic mess in the secondary. DT is a work in progress, but if anybody can turn that around, Bo Davis can.

You don't think Trey'Dez Green will be in the top 5 receiving yards wise?

We just had a Heisman winner and one of the most prolific offenses of all time. We wouldn’t have made it.

We lose our Heisman QB, two best receivers and besides coaching changes, nothing gives us a hint of earth shattering improvements on defense.

What angle would anyone be able to take to put us in? I can’t think of one.
