"colorful series" is spot on with this series. Not many better days in the NCAA than when florida is wearing their blue uniforms w orange trim going against the P&G

Not playing Auburn and Florida every year is the cost we paid to import a bunch of fruits from Texas into the conference.

In the context of the totality of SEC football Auburn was a pretty new "rival" for LSU. For example, LSU has played more games vs. A&M and Arkansas in its history despite Auburn being in the SEC for 94 years, while A&M (14 years) and Arkansas (34) have been in the league for considerably less time.

Florida is a different story. They are LSU's 5th most played opponent and this season will be the first season in 55 years they won't play each other, and only the 4th time in 73 years that will be the case. For good measure, LSU is Florida's 4th most played opponent. MORE than Florida St, Miami, and Tennessee.

Who cares about the UF series in the grand scheme of things. The expectation every year should be make the playoffs and compete for a national title.

If we don't play UF to make the playoff chances better, who cares. I could care less if we played Bama every year, if you told me that would result in us making the playoffs every year.

At the end of the day college football is nothing but ENTERTAINMENT for the fans. I bet most, if they really thought about it, would say watching your favorite team play compelling matchups against good opponents is far more entertaining than watching them play a bunch of bad teams to increase their chance of making the CFP.

It's kind of like the guy who makes it to 85 years old because he didn't drink, ate nothing unhealthy, never partied, always went to be early, never left home to avoid the risk of being in an unfamiliar place, never tried new things, etc. Sure he accomplished a goal of living to an old age in the end...but he avoided many enjoyable aspects of life along the way. Was that an entertaining life?

It's the diminishing incentive to be invested in the regular season. If you can lose 3 conference games and still be in the playoffs, the rivalry and tradition of the conference suffers.

Most LSU fans remember a time before Saban at Alabama, the annual match up between LSU and Auburn/Florida was the biggest game of the year that almost always had bowl implications.

Losing Alabama, Auburn and Florida for teams like Vandy and Mizzou doesn’t help our brand.

Does it hurt it?

Ask yourself this,
SHould we start playing Conference USA teams? Think that helps our brand? That's what tier Missouri and Vandy are in this league.

What does not playing Florida have to do with making the playoffs? The two aren’t very related to each other.

I grew up with it also, but 12 teams with an SEC Chamionship and BCS championship was damn near perfection for college football. Roy Kramer was a freaking genius IMO.

I'll answer for you. No. LSU is still LSU, they're still in the SEC, and they're still gonna get to play the big boys of the conference on a nice rotation. Even if we still had Auburn and Florida we'd have to contend with Missouri and Vandy on occasion. Besides, you could argue both Mizzou and Vandy have surpassed Auburn as far as the state of the programs. Point is, when LSU wins the brand is unstoppable no matter the opponents. Just start winning.

We often do...well, sun belt teams more often, but same thing.

I think the hotter ticket in Tiger Stadium for all teams mentioned (all things being equal)
Vandy
Mizz
Any sunbelt or CUSA team would still be
Auburn.

Go back to 8 teams and get rid of the additions. Conference should be: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt

Think how less tense tiger stadium would have been in 07 had both teams known the result only affects seeding and not your championship hopes. Does Les keep going for it on 4th?

It was an imperfect system that made a great product

Losing those was such a massive hit to what made CFB great and so much better than the NFL. The UF/Auburn games the last 2 decades had a completely different feel of their own. something bizarre was about to happen with both players and fanbases despising each other in the best way possible. At least we got to experience it.
