ESPN: 2011 LSU 24th Best Team in CFB History Not to Win an NC

Frankly, they should have been higher, given their regular season exploits. Brace yourself for the inevitable allusion to the depressing debacle that was the 2011 national championship game.
However, enjoy the fact that the number one team on the list is 1959 Ole Miss, which was denied an NC by its lone loss to its perennial tormentor: LSU.

2019 OSU on that list

I think they meant the best

It’s interesting they put 2019 Ohio state on there but not 2019 Clemson who beat them.

This will be an interesting thread.

No F'ing way there are 23 better 'close but no cigar' squads.
The fact they beat the Natty champ on the road, this alone makes those rankings comical..
Then, the ranked teams beaten, and by margins, etc..

Yup. 24 is way to low......

LSU’s 2011 defense was the best I’ve ever seen. If this list had that team in the top 5 then I’d give in and click the link and accept the inevitable outrage I’d experience.
That they have us at 24 just means that list is bogus and not worth giving them the Click.

And 1959 Ole Miss was number 1. And guess who knocked them out of a NC chance-

That is truly a head scratcher

ESPN just couldn't let go of its "most complete team" BS.

Honestly, 2nd toughest schedule to 2019 LSU. Absolutely wrecked all teams except Bama. Had they won, they would be in discussion of top team ever, but that offense would have always kept that honor away from them. Still, a great team that went 1-1 against NC.

2011 beat the national champion on the road, The Rose Bowl/PAC 12 champ in Dallas, The Big East/Orange bowl (Clemson blowout) champs on the road, The Cotton Bowl champs
That teams schedule went 7-1 in the bowl games.

It’s ESPN so they are probably incorporating FPI in their formula somewhere which is totally crap.

1986 Miami would be my #1, that team was loaded, played like shite and still almost won. Surprised 79 USC isn't on there that team had 4 future Hall of Famers and was 11-0-1.

I dunno...that '86 OU team got drilled by a Miami team that ended up not winning the NC. LSU won it's GOC and then gagged in a rematch. Seems like an arbitrary pick as #2

FPI gave Clemson a 57% chance of beating LSU
It also had Ohio State ranked number one after the national championship game while LSU was ranked number 3 after Clemson.

Being put as low as 24th is frankly insulting

Tbh I feel Ohio State wins that game if Dobbins doesn’t get hurt but also I’m sure the guys drafted from Ohio State played part in the decision. Either way we still win the Natty!
