When was Saban’s 5 win season at LSU? Why isn’t O Gerry Dinardo 2.0? Where’s O’s second SEC title? Why do you ignore or dismiss the state of the program they each inherited as well as anything else that goes against this insane narrative?

Only the state of the program when each took over

Anything which you or I would add is nothing more than speculation.

It is not speculation that LSU won only 7 games the 2 years before Saban was hired (we won 9 in Miles last full season plus 2 when he was fired 4 games into the 16 season)
It’s not speculation that we had 8 losing seasons in 11 years before Saban was hired. It’s not speculation that we had only 1 top 5 finish IN 40 YEARS.
It’s not speculation that our facilities were horrible.

orgeron caught lightening in a bottle in 2019

saban is lightening

just the fact that orgeron turns over all three phases of the team to others when saban is in total control over everything proves the OP wrong

I mean Picking “this last three full seasons” because the numbers are the same when that means season 3-5 for Saban and 2-4 for O doesn’t really make much sense.

That post was in response to the comparison of the programs respectively assumed. By years three to five each was primarily coaching his own team and not an inherited program. For the record I was including 2018 to 2020 for Orgeron, not his fault Covid cost two cancellations.

Saban coached 64 games and in two weekS Orgeron will have done the same. If LSU splits they have the exact record in 64 games each.

Yeah and apparently O taking over a team that went 9-3 the year before and had a few top 10 classes on the roster means he will be in the same place by year 3 As a guy who took over a Dumpster fire.

Also you didn’t compare uear 3-5

You compared year 3-5 for Saban to 2-4 for O.

And LSU was a significantly better program when O took over than Saban.

Did Saban lose 19 of 22 starters to the NFL after his national title season and then try to rebuild the program in the midst of a pandemic.

He was 8-5 in 2002 so not much better.

I mean.... It’s a valid point...... Hell the last Saban game we lost to Fuking IOWA.... yuck.

Then his first year back in the SEC he lost to ULM....parallels to Troy.....

This is such a lame and myopic argument. In general, Saban shrugs off this excuse every year, reloads, and beats the snot out of you with discipline, execution, and physicality.

The record, although important, is not valid in a comparison between O and Saban. O relies HEAVILY on the coaches around him. Saban develops and improves everyone from the Towel Boy to the OC. The only true way to evaluate performance is in retrospect. If O goes on to produce what Saban has since his return to Alabama, then compare away. IMHO O is not even close to Saban. Time will tell.

This is the thread that gets passed around on other teams message boards where they point and laugh at how delusional our fan base is.

No not someday, never. Saban has a coaching philosophy and a process...rinse and repeat. Orgeron doesnt know what he is doing and will spend the rest of his hopefully short time here chasing 2019 again.

So this means O is leaving for the NFL and returning to coach Alabama. I’ll take it.

They were just comparing records, which is actually very interesting. I don't think a lot of people remember Saban's last year here. He's a great coach now, maybe the greatest ever, but he lost at least three games every year at LSU except for 2003.

I remember a mediocre 2004 season and a bowl loss to Iowa with their 5'4" QB beating our secondary (Saban's specialty) on the last play when we knew they would throw deep.

Ed O can’t hold Saban’s jock

Let’s not forget. O, using the Saban method, didnt actually interview his hires. These things are not comparable. Saban built it and O is trying to destroy it. O has set some records, historically bad losses and records for worst defensive performances.

If you want to ignore all the other factors and context keep going but this comparison is like saying your aunt is your uncle just because they’re both ugly.

One question, who do you think would hire O if he was fired tomorrow? (Much less try to hire him away?). Not the NFL not another power 5. In fact USC is probably thinking phew we dodged a bullet.

8-5

If you remember his career ended with a massive coverage bust on a hail Mary that allowed Iowa to beat us with the clock running out
