Anyone over 35 knows someone who worked at Shaw. And every single one of those people will tell you what a piece of shite Jim is.

I found him to be a good boss. I worked with him directly and would see him at least once or twice a week. He was very direct and you always knew where you stood with the man. If you were competent and took care of your business he paid well. If not you were out. He was a good family man and never seemed to look at any woman other than his wife (Dana's a very nice lady and daughter of Dr. Reneau former president of Louisiana Tech). My experience was different I guess. I enjoyed my time at Shaw.
The only caveat is he was affiliated with the democratic party. I interacted with Bill Clinton, Cleo Fields, Nagin, Terry McAuliffe, and every other dirt bag politician. The only exception is John Breaux. Like him very much.
Just my thoughts on the man.

He was tough but fair and you worked hard for him and he compensated you well
I know someone who cashed out and retired early in life
If you sucked he shipped you out to Venezuela where he had employment opportunities one guy I know went and spent weekends in Aruba he didn’t want to come back
At time Shaw was one of few Baton Rouge companies that paid like jobs in Houston or Atlanta
He also gave summer jobs to LSU players going back to 90’s
One player sunk his boat

Ryan Perilloux worked for us one summer. I took him for his drug screen. I liked Ryan, he needed to grow up. Glad to hear that he has done that.
I guarantee you 99 percent of the stories about Jim are from those who never even knew him. He built that company from several bankrupt entities. You have to respect that no matter what you think about him as a person.

The company took off when he went to South Carolina to buy some pipe fab bending equipment
Instead of buying the equipment he ended up buying the entire company which was one of the biggest in the entire south
Then he started acquiring other companies
Name the sporting event and he took clients all over including the masters

We might know each other Nicholas. I went to the ncaa tournament, too many lsu football games to name, The Masters, Astros world series, hunting at the Marsh Club and I'm sure several other events I've forgotten about. Went to the first Saints game in the dome post Katrina. It was the loudest event I've ever attended. Deafening.

This is one weird fricking story. The only thing for sure in this story is that Drake Davis is sadly a complete waste of a person who was given numerous opportunities to have a great life.

Truth told none of the student summer hires did a lot of work. We mostly mentored them in dealing with a business environment and had them assigned some small duties.

It ain’t about Jim. This is Lester and his son. Apple/tree. Jim is just the sucker that fell for it, like Dr Bryan. Both smart and successful guys. Both “just wanted to help” an unfortunate kid. Heart is in the right place , but couldn’t recognize a bad human being. Davis didn’t wake up at 18 and become a woman beater. If JB made a mistake , it wa taking a broken kid and NOT getting him true help (psych and med). Worst thing you can do is give a troubled kid an unlimited bank account and sense of entitlement. Hate to say it, but the guy is just a bad parent. Clearly an enabler. There is something to be said for giving your kid a whipping , making them kneel in a corner or putting soap in their mouth. Love them , but tell them NO and discipline them young.

They were required to be at work everyday and were. Just because it wasn't really hard doesn't mean anything. My department didn't do physical labor anyway.

His other son is at Villanova and apparently somewhat normal.
