These sinecure arraignments were very well known when I was at LSU in the 80's. Back when minimum wage campus jobs were paying $3.35/hour, certain athletes were rumored to get "internships" from boosters paying much more - perhaps up to $25/hr. Handing over cash would be too obvious, so these practically do nothing jobs gave an appearance of legitimacy. This is certainly not unique to LSU. You've got to accept that mega money moves around at D1 programs and that sort of money too often results in comprised ethics and judgment.
After-all, we all like football, but how many of us care so much about the game that we are ready to grossly overpay athletes that do not possess job skills. I personally don't care enough about wins that I'd waste my company's money that way. That's just not rational behavior. So why do they do it? There must be some financial advantage to LSU and to the boosters.
