Look at Corral and Darts numbers year 1 to year 2 with Kiffin. No reason to think that he could not do the same with Leavitt.

I disagree.

First, let me say that I truly hope that Sam (and the rest of the offense) find some rhythm and consistency against aTm that they can build on for the rest of the season.

It's not all on Sam - the OL isn't doing him any favors in passpro, our receivers are meh (including Watkins, at least for now), and he lost his best target in Green for many weeks.

Sam can definitely improve his own performance, however, regardless of those deficits - better decision making in the pocket, actually stepping up into the pocket instead of bailing, progressing through his reads, etc. Those changes would go a long way to improving our overall offensive performance.

But here's the thing - in their second year here both Joe and JD had that thing where, when the chips were down they could make something happen to change the game. They had the desire and ability to put the offense on their back and move forward when they had to.

Everyone's saying that "for a 5 million dollar NIL QB, Sam should be able to do that". I disagree, especially since his surrounding cast is nowhere near the level that the other two had, and he's only in his first year.

I do, however, think it's entirely reasonable to expect someone at his level to show improvement as the season moves on. And so far, for whatever reason, that hasn't happened.

So IMO whether he comes back in 27 or not (regardless of what he wants to do) depends on whether or not he can improve his own game. Given the injuries and deficiencies elsewhere in the offense any improvement from him would go a long way to prove he's worth a QB1 slot in '27.

And, I trust Kiffin to make that decision at the end of the season. Personally, if Sam shows little or no improvement over the year I don't think Lane is going to let him be the reason we also have a poor showing next year. That type of "deference to seniority" crap may have flown with Les, O, and Kelly but Lane will do what's best for the team.

So let's see where we are at the end of the season before worrying about whether or not we'll be saddled with a meh QB costing us millions next year. There's a lot of football left to be played this year - sit back and enjoy the ride.
