Does Leavitt have one or two years of eligibility here?

I'm starting to think that this might be a year like JD's first year here. So, if that parallel holds up, we might be looking at a long year where Sam has to learn to trust his receivers and actually look for them instead of bolting at the first whiff of pressure.
I know he doesn't have the receivers that JD did, but he doesn't have to have them to improve his passing game. I'm sure that, eventually, he'll start to get more comfortable in whatever passpro our OL can provide him. The question is "how long will that take"?
And, assuming the worst, let's say he follows the Jayden Daniels career growth path and needs a full year of games (with the following off-season) to actually become a good passer. Does he even have another year with us? And if he does, will he take it? Will Kiffin?
And, on that topic - assuming Sam stays for another year, if he has a JD type of first-year performance will Kiffin look elsewhere for another starter while Pop develops?
Know this - I really hope things start to turn around for Sam, starting this weekend. I'm pulling for him. But this is the first year in the system for him (and a lot of other folks as well), and given how hard the remaining schedule is I wonder if it's a now-or-never opportunity for Sam with aTm this Saturday?
Thoughts?

Two. Unless he improves dramatically though we need to go after Taylor from Mississippi State with a blank check

He has two years left but I’m cool if he goes elswhere for his last season
LSU needs a QB who can throw the ball accurately with consistency and Sam ain’t that.

I hope we have to be concerned about his bolting early for the pros, but at this point we don’t.

Lets say he stays. Then next year makes leaps and bounds. All we have to do is make up some bullshite and get a TRO. Then we can have him for an entire other year!!
It's literally a win win scenario

I have zero clue what people have seen that leads to them this conclusion.

Besides the batted balls at the line, it's a pretty clear comparison. He's taking time to adjust to the size and speed difference between the B12 and the SEC. Not surprising

I mean he did have a foot injury last year. Chambliss got an extra year for a runny nose

There's also the cost factor - what would it take? And, along with that, I wonder what agreements we have in place with Sam? If he wants to stay another year I wonder if his NIL agreements would stay in place - even if he's not the starter. If that's the case would it impact what we could do with KT?
In the end, I don't think Taylor is a realistic option for us next year. Given how well he's playing he's probably gone to the NFL after next year anyway, so we'd get one year max out of him. State would also probably back up a Brinks truck to keep him for his junior year as well.
Personally, I think Sam is capable of being a very good dual-threat QB. He's dropped some dimes under pressure, but he's also made some boneheaded mistakes. Our OL isn't doing him any favors in pass protection, but his running ability is the truth. The only question is whether or not he's capable of improving (especially given the state of our OL this year).
It might be worth it if Sam is "good enough" this year (as a passer) to see where he's at in spring next year. If he's able to make some (any!) improvement in his passing and pocket awareness this year, I'm betting he could make a second-year jump like our other Heisman QB's made - assuming he wants it bad enough.

I'm not a Leavitt hater by any means (I'm damn glad we have him) but Jayden Daniels didn't throw his first interception until October 8th. They aren't similar players.

chambliss got on his knees and let sankey tickle his tonsils with an SEC dick thus skankey NOT arguing his TRO or injunction like he did ours.

In '22, Jayden was 8/15 for 86 yds and had 19 carries for 10 yds vs an avg Arky team. That was game #10 on the schedule.
Jayden improved leaps-n-bounds in '23.

2 things:
1. I don’t think Kamario leaves state. He’s from the area and they will pay a fortune to keep him. And I hope he does stick around that program personally
2. I think Leavitt was always going to be here 2 years unless he just blew it out the water this year. Quarterbacks improve with time in a system, and it’s not inconceivable that a full healthy offseason would do wonders for Leavitt as well.

all these false equivalence narratives need to die.
he is NOT like JB9 or JD5. it has been laid out why ad infinitum but rantards here keep making dumbass threads bloviating about what they know nothing of. the classic dunning-kruger effect in full motion for all to witness.

O saw something in Joe that said "this guy will be good next year". Same with Kelly and Daniels (one of the few good decisions Kelly made).
The question, then is whether or not Lane will see the same potential for Sam's growth and ability if he's given another year?
Magic 8-Ball is busted, so I don't know. But there's still a lot of football left to be played this year. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

10000%
Compare Sam Leavitt to Sam Leavitt. He's going to win a shitton of games here.

quote:Jayden also had better receivers, FWIW. Also, keep in mind that JD thew a LOT of balls away - he was definitely risk-averse in his 1st-year passing. Kinda hard to throw interceptions when you're doing that.

Not sure the OL was better for him in his 1st year than what Sam has, though.

First 3 games as an LSU starter: JD vs SL.
JD: 0 INTs / 69.5%
SL: 5 INTs / 61.3%
They both came from AZ St...but there is no comparison so far.
ETA: Rushing TDs are pretty close, but SL is not seeing the field like JD did so far.

quote:Agreed. I don't think anyone is saying that Sam is similar to JD or Joe. Far from it - especially physically. Sam is a much sturdier runner than Jayden, but might not be as fast or elusive. Joe had a release that would make a praying mantis jealous, but part of that came in his second year after he got used to the system and his receivers.
he is NOT like JB9 or JD5.
That said, it's entirely fair to say that Sam's performance and game decisions are - so far - strikingly similar to Jayden's first year. Beyond that, comparison is meaningless.
