Kim Mulkey fell into his lap. Go back and look at how that happened. She let it be known she wanted the LSU job.

He is also the guy who hired Jay Johnson and Kim Mulkey.

Which makes her large contract insane as well. Fat Scott can’t negotiate his way out of a wet paper back.

His one good hire was Jay Johnson because he didn’t fall in our lap.

Some AD will fall in love with a coach and back the Brinks truck up for him. It only takes one. And there is a fool born every minute.

Yes. Fans are prisoners of the moment.

Look around college football. Everyone’s adjusting to the new landscape. Silly to pin this on Woodward’s hiring process.

This is how you end up with a Billy Napier or P.J. Fleck.

No fricking way. That clown needs to go now. If that fat frick wasn’t from here, he would have already been run out of town.

He made 2 good hires at Washington that got him the job at A&M. His last two hires, Jimbo and Kelly have not panned out. He would have the opportunity to make another hire but I have no idea. Certain Coaches just don't work in some situations.

We have no choice. He will make a homerun hire or a strikeout hire.

On paper, BK was a home run hire.

He was not a "home run hire." He's never won a NY6 bowl in his life. He was supposed to be a "safe" hire that fat arse Scott could rely on to win enough games to keep the fans coming and allow Scott to keep his job.

It will be interesting to see if ADs still pay these obnoxious, guaranteed contracts

There should be no contract longer than 5 years, especially if you are bringing in a new coach

I keep seeing the Rant fantasize about getting Kiffen (who also had not won anything significant). Kiffen will command a similar price.

They should be five year based, fully guaranteed. Additional years can be added on based on performance. Give a larger pool for assistants and NIL.

My worry is that Woodward is going to, again, look for an older, more established name rather than get a young, fresh, motivated coordinator.

The question is going to be "what are the customers (fans/donors) demanding?"

Many LSU fans seem to live in this fantasy land that LSU can hire a highly accomplished power conf. coach who is in-demand by many schools, including his current school, for a 5-6 year contract with nominal guaranteed money, "incentive pay", and a low buyout.

That's not the way the market works Peter Pan. If LSU's fans/donors are demanding LSU hire a power conf. HC with a history of high level success, it's going to take a huge contract (similar to Kelly's) to make that happen. The coach is going to hold ALL of the leverage in the negotiations because LSU needs him. He doesn't need LSU. If that is Woodward's marching orders, that's the type of hire he will try to make.

If LSU fans/donors want a lesser contract, then they have to be willing to accept a less accomplished, less in-demand coach. A G6 HC, or a P4 coordinator (similar to Oregon's hire of Dan Lanning)

If Woodward had hired an up and comer with no real experience y’all would be screaming about how LSU is not a stepping stone job and we should hire only the highest caliber proven coaches.

I disagree with this. At the time Saban, Miles & to a certain extent O were all up and comers with something to prove. Going back in history, BK is the only coach LSU has hired that was 100% a "proven" coach.
