What clause of the SEC bylaws provides for punishing coaches for giving advice to players?

I agree. It’s fricked up. But NOTHING of the SEC’s/Sankey’s actions have been based on logic.

And there is nothing in the SEC rules that requires justification for penalties.

This will be one of THE most watched games in recent memory and if the SEC suspends Lane for no valid reason then the PR damage to the SEC will be past repair as everyone will see it for what it really is (and what all this has been about). I know the SEC doesn't make the best of decisions but for them to even contemplate this is absurd.

Section 4.4.3 of sec bylaws

Penalties and Sanctions.” It says the Commissioner may impose a fine or other appropriate sanctions against a member institution that “violates any of the provisions of the Constitution, Bylaws, or other rules, regulations, or legislation of the Conference or the NCAA.”

Cool but what bylaws and provisions were violated? LSU didn't ultimately violate any rules old or new.

Speech alone has been protected in higher courts.
