Good thing about preseason rankings is that they don’t matter

people just look at the shiny new skill guys they got and think they will overwhelm the Pac 10. Nobody looks how horrible their OL and DL are and Riley's OL coach stayed in Oklahoma

They have a top 3 QB, an elite coach, and a bunch of really good transfers. Now I definitely don’t think they are the 14th best team, but they’ll probably do pretty well in a weak conference

Skill guys should get them to 8-9 wins at least

Utah likely will be too physical for them and Notre Dame is a toss up at this point

They don't play Oregon either but the ducks are in a transition phase too with even less pieces to play with

It’s also funny that Lincoln has “all the pieces he needs to be elite” per the media when the only thing USC has is good offensive skill players. Their team across the board is shite, I don’t think Riley made good hires in particular, he brought his trash DC with him, and he lost his best position coach to LSU, and he’s never successfully rebuilt a program before.

The dude honestly seems a little radioactive right now considering he left Oklahoma on good terms IMO, but of course the media will completely ignore that

And they have the fifth best odds to reach the College Football National Championship game (if you believe the pre-season hype from some rags).

USC may be a bit high here

USC is 5th on this prediction list (click the continue reading button for the details).

Midtiger farm is right. They may have a good coach, good QB, and good skill guys, but their OL and DL are both awful which is where football games are won. They might get 7-9 wins, but they aren't the 14th best team in the country either.

USC could win 10 games a year playing in the PAC12, with the talent advantage they have.

We’d be ranked about the same if we had their schedule this year.

Ironically, they will be this years Oklahoma... Easy Pac12 schedule, then arse whipping in the CFP.

They don’t have shite on defense. Riley better score 50+ with that group.

USC can go 10-2 and still not be worth a shite. LSU can go 8-4 and still be better than a 10-2 USC...

I was watching Inside College Sports on CBSSports and they highlighted this as an overhype. They pointed out the all the big name transfers into the program are offensive players. Riley still has not learned to focus any on defense...

The yearly hype machine to make them relevant had extra fodder this season.
It's all about perception. As we all know, reality means very little in SoCal - and they have a perfect HC for that.

So you think they will be a top 4 team to make the playoffs? Because top 14 won’t sniff that.

I just don't see how anyone considers Lincoln Riley an elite coach. He has a really good offensive mind but he's a one sided coach. OU's defense has been hot garbage since he took over for Stoops. We'll get a chance to see what he can do with a program that had to be rebuilt but I'm glad we got Kelly and not Riley.

all voter polls are irrelevant in todays game. The only ranking that matters is the Playoff Selection Committee’s final ranking.

The rest is noise - ignore them all.
