I say YES - sort of. There were still OPEN receivers down the field and long plays happening - both running and passing. We did have a legitimate pass rush and pressure on QB - including an actual sack. That was encouraging! The pass coverage was better than average for most of 2nd half. We also had opportunity to recover 2 fumbles that could have given LSU some breathing room. If the DB's can recognize and close on the ball just 1/2 second quicker those long pass completions will be a thing of the past. We have played 3 of the best offensive teams in the country (IMHO) in our first 6 games. Let's hope for more improvement moving forward! Let it happen. Geaux Tigers!

I wouldn’t say they looked legit but they did play with some fire that they haven’t played with all season. So that was really good to see. They just need to build off of that fire and keep getting better

No. I was still worried we would allow a first down on 4th and 32. They looked better but not what I would call legit.

in addition to the DL being closer to the ball the back half of the defense played closer to the line of scrimmage as well. At the game it was noticeable after the first interception. They were getting a little more pressure and playing closer to the receivers than the first half and not starting with a 10-15 yard cushion. Non scrambling QB's allow a lot more man to man.

They looked very good in spots. Still too many big plays given up but they at least made things harder for Missouri and got a handful of stops.

I wouldn't say they are close to where they need to be but the 2nd half was a huge improvement over the 1st half

Bottom line -

We gave up 22 points on the first three drives - that’s very bad.
Then, we gave up 17 points on their next 10 drives - that’s good enough for us to win every week.

If we can perform at the level we did after the first 3 drives for the rest of the year, this offense will be able to win every game. EVERY game.

This is a good stat line for the LSU defense. If we did this vs Ole Miss, we win that game easily.

Mizzou
3rd down efficiency 4-11
4th down efficiency 1-2

Looking at those two together we stopped them on 6 drives, not including takeaways (2). So 8 drives they did not score a touchdown on. 3 FG attempts only 1 made. So 7 drives with 0 points

Ole Miss
3rd down efficiency 9-16
4th down efficiency 2-3

Here we stopped them on 5 drives and they had no turnovers. 2 of those ended with FGs, 2/2. So only 3 drives resulted in 0 points.

I'd say the Mizzou game was a much better game overall and the second half in particular, considering Mizzou only scored 14 in the second half.

What KajunKouyon said. They looked better toward the end of the game, but don't know if I'd call them "legit."

They played "average" in the second half, but they have been so abysmal all year that they played "well above their bar"

The focus needs to be on redzone defense. We don't have the players to have an elite or even really good defense. But we can buckle down in the red zone and force FGs. With an elite offense that's all it will take to win games.
