Defending CWS Champs should get an auto-bid

I said this in 2010 and I’ll say it again. Going all the way through Omaha puts you behind in preparing for the next season, and is such a monumental achievement that it should give you more leeway the next year.
Now, if like this year the champ would otherwise miss the tourney, they should be slotted as the 4-seed in the 1 overall regional.
I’d still give us a better shot at taking down UCLA than whatever directional cow school on which that spot will be wasted.

It might put us at a slight disadvantage. Not enough to be an excuse for missing the postseason entirely.
If a team is bad enough to need that rule, it'll most likely be 2 and Q in the regional.

Obviously that’s when I think about it, but those Mississippi teams for instance shouldn’t have been left out the next year.

If they were to go to LA and win that regional then take 2/3 from another top 16 on the road? Yes.
I realize the odds are about the same as I’d have with a gymnast, but I think the champ should always get some shot.
