Both true freshman starting at interior defensive line at the start of practice #2.
Overreactions only please.
Malik Blocton and Stephiylan Green second team.
Dominik McKinley and Brandon Brown third.

DTs rotate more than any other position on the team. You always want a fresh pair of guys in there. They can wear down quick. It's good that we have 5 solid guys we can count on there.

Agreed! Hope they stay healthy and make life miserable for opposing QBs.
Everyone talks about pass rush coming from the edge, but interior pressure A/B gap up the middle between either guard and center is QB worst nightmare. Can’t step up into the pocket. Ruins passing game timing.

The worry about this is how much of this is due to the freshmen being studs vs. the vets and transfers not stepping up

Nailed it. Between Peoples, Orgeron and Lucas + Baker; I wonder who has the most influence on starting rotation.
Really only McKinley has experience in Baker’s scheme, but I don’t think that matters much for a defensive tackle.
Thought McKinley would have developed into a stud by now. I think Blocton and Green will play a lot.

Might be to light a fire under upperclassmen arse. Then again, it may just be that the talent difference is so great, they can't overlook it on account of inexperience.

I think you are closest to the truth with this take. I expect the same thing is being done with putting Thomas out there over Cooley at safety.
Sending a message to your older guys that they need to step it up; don’t get complacent because no one is guaranteed a job.

McKinley didn't look incredibly explosive last year. Although he had a strong bull rush. That was all I saw from him

McKinley is listed at 6’6” on the LSU website. Pad level is no doubt a major issue. I have not studied him much but imagine wasted/ineffective first steps really hinder a guy that tall.
Kind of reminds me of Maason Smith recently. Another huge body guy that never seemed to take over and dominate with that size advantage.
