That's why I always virtue signal. So no one ever gets mad at me here.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

There was someone with inside info, either here or on the on3 board when it was revealed that he was away from the team, who said that it was a title 9 issue.

Why would that matter? Especially if the school follows the protocols that are in place.

BK recruited the most likely person this could involve. Lane followed protocols set in place.

This story makes it seem like a cover up. Apparently she has video of one of the LSU officers saying the below. Get these pieces of shite out of here quote:I’m going to be straight forward with you. In just what I’ve seen, I see issues and I just want to be honest with you. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to be arrested but it could mean he could be arrested and then it’s just…you want to talk about accountability, right? You can ask Detective Revet, we arrest people all the time and what happens? It just doesn’t get prosecuted, and they’ll just dismiss the case,” the two officers told the student in the video

I don’t know how this makes it a “cover up”

Arrests happen all the time and people get cleared and hell sometimes they don’t get cleared and go to jail only for time later to be found innocent.

Just because an officer is trying to shift any responsibility on to someone else in front of a student doesn’t mean there was a cover up.

If the guy did something put him behind bars.

At the same time I’m not going to leap to conclusions because if he had enough mitigating evidence that he was successful in a title 9 system that is geared to be over aggressive towards the accused it would stand to reason that there is reasonable doubt.

Title 9 is Federal Education law that is supposed to prevent discrimination based on sex. Rules require Universities and K12 schools that receive Federal Funding to investigate sexual assaults and harassment, then take steps including punishments.
Title 9 rules around burden of proof after accusations of sex assault and harassment have been flip flopping with changes in the White House and court decisions. A student can be in violation of Title 9 even if there isn't enough evidence to charge them. Due to all of the constant changing in Title 9 rules over the last 15 years, lawyers often are able to find grounds to win an appeal.

Yea the title ix system clearly favors accusers and video of random cops saying stuff isn’t much to scream verge ordered a coverup.

The crime happened in October 25 so BK or Frank Wilson and fat Scott/ verge.

Hard to think Verge would risk the big boy job when he had been suspended for not following protocols.

I like that you're more concerned with the program than the girl getting justice.

Wonder if your reaction would be different it was your daughter, sister, niece etc.

Some things are bigger than football.
While I agree this is messed up, however something doesn't make sense. If they went through all of that, how in the world is his punishment just a year long suspension and return to school? Is this actually rape?

This is why I'm interested in how he won the appeal.

The appeal ruling is why this is relevant now at all. If he doesn't win that, he's not on the team and it remains a BK, etc issue as you said.

But he was let back on the team, so now it's a current issue.

When something happens on campus, it is generally handled by the campus police. The BRPD likely handed it over to the campus police to do an investigation as it is their jurisdiction first.

Title IX councils serve as non-criminal courts within the university. There may not have been enough evidence to make criminal charges against the suspect. The Title IX "trial" can then assess the circumstances and dole out punishments related to university eligibility, expulsion, and so forth. They do not convict of criminal charges.

There was a story about a Yale guy who had a girl obsessed with him. He didn't care for her that way, and she claimed sexual assault and started walking around campus carrying her mattress as some form of performative art. They went to Title IX, and he was expelled from the university. There are very broad rules for Title IX, and you are much more likely to get the result you want as a victim there. That girl won, and the guy sued, and I think he won his civil case against the university.

Title IX provides some real protection for students, but has been abused and manipulated as well, unfortunately.

For example, if a student makes a random accusation, say, of sexual discrimination or sexism, in their course/instructor review without any supporting evidence, that instructor/professor is supposed to undergo a Title IX review.

It can be ridiculous, but it has also protected actual victims as well.

It’s because the case is really weak most likely. If it wasn’t then he would have lost title ix appeal and been dismissed and charges would have likely been brought.

The thing is we likely really will only ever get one side of the story here, hers where goes on social media and accuses LSU of a coverup which didnt happen

I don’t know that I would call it a current issue for LSU.

It makes sense to have him back on the team since he won his appeal. You aren’t going to find a school anywhere that is going to suspend someone and then when they win an appeal not allow them back.

All the coaches can really do is follow protocols, if it gets reported to title ix he is away from the team, he wins he comes back, he loses and he is kicked from school.

My point is if this was a woman in your family I think you’d have a different outlook on how it’s being talked about here.

I agree with all this.

But

I mean it in the sense that LSU can't just shoo it away because it happened under the old regime. LSU has to put up with the circus right now because he's back on the team, even if simply as a formality.

No one said let him play even if he did do it.

It’s a reasonable position to realize there is currently one very shaky version of the story going around and the video doesn’t prove what she alleges LSU did about it.

That's not even entirely true. You can even lose the appeal and not have charges brought. The burden of proof to be found guilty in Title IX trials is almost nothing in some cases, even for the appeals.

She’s been posting all over social media about it, the followers told her she needs to press charges. She alleges that he tried to pay her 1k to shut up. People are assuming it’s Shanklin

It went through formal Title IX processes. Unless the alleged victim can show that the appeal was somehow rigged in the accused's favor with legitimate evidence, then it should be put to bed.

Oh yea I agree with that, we can’t just sweep this as it was a BK Frank issue.

The good part is no matter if he did or did not do it, we followed the procedures put in place. No one can reasonably scream Lane let a rapist back on the team. Now that’s not going to stop Paul from doing it, but would be a hell of a line to push as that might actually lead to LSU doing something about it.

They probably knew all of this was going on when they let him back but they kinda had to due to him winning the appeal, but could be why he hasn’t dressed.
