In his PC Kelly mentioned the word recognition (adjusting protection and throws based on pre and post snap recognition) at least 4 times when discussing what Daniels struggled with/needs improvement. Would think experience would help with this but he has 20 something starts under his belt. Any coaches on here (I know we all are right!!) know if this trait is fixable or at what point do you just realize it will not get better and is something you just have to scheme around, even to detriment of not being able to utilize the entire playbook? He seems to have almost all the traits you want in a current day qb otherwise.

If Kelly didn't think it was fixable or thought that it presented too much of a liability, he wouldn't be starting Daniels. But he is.

If Daniels didn’t have the running ability he does he wouldn’t be starting, esp if we are to believe what BK said about them being 1A/B in camp. But coaches don’t lie do they????

Most qbs struggle with this and yes experience, film study, and coaching can help a qb get better.

Good thing he has that running ability because a non mobile qb would get murdered behind that line. That’s why he’s starting.

Yeah the Daniels fanboys on here are basically ignoring this but it was a factor into why he didn't play that great on Sunday. If he improves in this area, and OL starts to gel, the offense could look actually pretty good once we hit the gauntlet of SEC play.

Could have been uptight in his first LSU start, or picked up bad habits.

I'm not worried until 3-4 games in.

Where are these people? I haven’t really seen a big vocal group of these types. In fact I’ve seen the opposite way more.

Again, a lot of pass protection issues (and in-game responses to them) are likely due to the QB. Denbrock also shares some of the blame as well.

It could be he and the Center make the adjustments in practice but had problems when the lights came in a game. You would think with all the experience he has that wouldn’t be the case. I’m sure they are working on it in practice and hope it shows in the games coming up. SEC defenses will be as good and many will be better than FSU.

You do realize the center has some blame also right? His first game at center also

This is something that should bother the coaches. Daniels is the one who is experienced which should know protections and hot reads. I was expecting better in these areas, its possible Nuss is worse.

He got better, but that is what I would be watching going forward. Simply have to get the ball to the WRs.

The ones that start along the lines of “Daniels isn’t the reason we lost” argument.

It wasn’t 1a/1b and Kelly clearly didn’t have plans to play both qbs either. That was all said to keep Nuss from transferring earlier.

Most of the guys saying this seem to be either Nuss fanboys or were in the Brennan camp.

I thought Brennan would be the guy but he isn't and it's Daniels so I hope he sets the world on fire.

I would rather LSU do well than be right but it seems a lot of the fanbase does not feel that way.

My only worry about JD is he's 4 years in. The chances of great improvement aren't high.

He'll win a few games like he played last week. If he improves, it could be a better year.

Nuss probably has the higher capacity to improve since he's younger and less experienced.

Same coaches and players he had as a Sun Devil? Everything is different, clown!
