Personally I think he should sit out, he doesn’t have to risk injury and Nuss gets a whole month of being the guy so they can evaluate him in game action.

He’ll play to break the 4000 yards mark and get Nabors his receiving yards record

Then hand it over to Nuss

That's what I was thinking as well.

He doesn't need to play an entire game.

Anyone remember how good Jefferson looked at qb in the bowl game only to basically never play that well again

Exactly and Nuss is the dude. A proper start is still invaluable though prior to USC next year. Same as a week 0 game would be.

Are we looking for a 1 or quality depth.

It shouldn't matter - you go after the best player you can reasonably get. Every time. At every position.

The...best.

Except it does matter and "best" isn't a known thing it's a guessing game.

Well, then how do you know if you're recruiting a #1 QB or a "quality depth"?

it seems the fans are eager to turn it all something as clinical as a business transaction.

The fans are just adjusting to the reality created by television dollars, and the conferences whoring themselves out.

I wish the op would change the title of this thread! Three times I’ve glanced at it and I’ve seen “Daniels opting out” and my heart skips a beat.

I am sure the coaches already know if they want to pursue someone in the portal I think it is yes, someone as experienced back up and I am sure it be very targeted on 1 or 2 guys. They won’t cast a wide net.

They know the guy on their roster far better than an outside player. Despite some wanting to dismiss it knowing the system and showing loyalty both give that guy a leg up on any outsider. So unless you just have no confidence in your guy you're not going to pursue a starter which all indications are they aren't.

He’s going to opt out.

But if I could have anything I wanted on the topic, he would play, we’d scheme up a big play for Nabors, and then Kelly would call time out and pull those guys off the field. And I’d have the entire team meet them in the field to congratulate the two for their careers.

Man that’s rough. Can’t imagine what you would have said about him if he said something not positive about Taysom.

I would like JD to suit up along with Nabors, but only play a small amount and turn it
over to Nuss and the guys that will be here next year. Basically have them turn over the reigns

Unless Nuss takes a great leap forward, which he could, he's just not the guy. I haven't seen anything from him that tells me he's going to light it up here. I hope he makes that jump in the offseason. Other QBs have and he has the physical tools to do so.
Daniels at the beginning of the 2022 season was just not very good. Daniels after 2 years under Kelly? Heisman bound.

What makes you think Nuss can't make that same leap?

Not really fair to judge nuss on one game . He needs to have spring / fall practice to get his place. He’s hung around so give the man a fair shot
