If we want to be legit contenders, then no question we need a legit backup

But what good or even decent transfer is going to go to a program where they are just a backup? That’s the usual reason QB’s transfer, to not be a backup. I feel like if we go after a transfer we’re looking for a starter.

He’ll play to break the 4000 yards mark and get Nabors his receiving yards record Then hand it over to Nuss

Daniels and Nuss split reps in bowl prep last year and split the game, as well. Even if Daniels doesn’t opt out, he will probably practice and play even less than he did last year to limit injury risk.

The coaches have seen Nuss in practice for two years. They don’t a meaningless bowl game to determine if he’s the right guy.

All of us would love to see JD one more time, but if he were our son, everyone of us would say do not play....risk is too great, and he has nothing to prove.
LSU needs Nuss to be the guy at the controls after a month of practice with the ones.
LSU needs to know what we have going forward....this past season is over and done....it is all about the future of LSU football at this point.
Nobody cares if LSU wins or loses because anyone following college football knows that all teams in bowl games have players, usually the best players, that are not playing. Winning or losing is not indicative of anything anymore....not like the old days. Time to move on JD5, and thanks for a spectacular season. Let's geaux Nuss!

We have had 3 QBs transfer to become backups at other SEC schools in the past 3 years.

It’s absolutely not, this isn’t an exhibition game. They want 10 wins.

They also all sucked balls. I really don’t think we’re going after someone like Max Johnson

Steve
The staff knows how Nuss plays. Nothing limits them going for the best QB they can get. The transfer will compete for the starting job whether its Arch or Bob Smith

I don’t think we have any idea whether Walker Howard “sucks balls.”

Regardless, you can do a hell of a lot worse than Max Johnson when it comes to backup quarterbacks. I don’t want him as a starter, but that’s kind of the point - it’s definitely possible to get quality depth in the portal if that’s what the coaches are looking for. I would think it’s easier to recruit a guy if he has a realistic shot to start, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only option.
