Yes he is. All of his long passes are underthrown. The receivers have to adjust every time.

All the deep balls were underthrown. It's bafflng considering he's afraid of throwing INTs. It's much safer to overthrow than underthrow. WRs could do better at coming back to the ball, but that doesn't make his throw better.

He did have his best ever throw last night on that 2nd and 18 to Nabors on that fade, though, and had a very good second half.

Bottom line - he is someone who fuels with confidence...I think our OC and staff need to be very cognizent of this and script those first 10-15 plays and load them with easy pass plays to build early confidence and prevent him from getting into a shell.

The defense pretty much shut Arkansas down almost the entire first half and they were still beating LSU before lucky duck #1. Daniels took an entire half against a bad team to finally start getting it, somewhat. It worked out because both defenses fell apart in the second half. Defense does need to step up though…better offenses will boat race LSU while Daniels gets warmed up.

I'll never complain about an underthrown ball that was caught on a drive resulting in a TD. It's better than an overthrown ball or an INT.

And no, not EVERY ball in underthrown. I saw many perfectly placed balls last night. Granted, I only got to see the second half ;)

Daniels throws late and lacks am strength.

Translation, he is not good at throwing the deep ball

Go back and watch how many times the receivers had to come back on the long balls that Burrow threw. Happened all the time.

Absolutely agree . He still has a hard time quickly identifying the open receiver and letting the ball go . Too many underthrows for a guy with his number of starts . Great peripheral vision and quick mental processing are key for GREAT consistent quarteeback play . He is still lacking .

He doesn’t see the entire field and let the ball go in a timely fashion . At this point in his career , probably not fixable . He gets drafted , but will most likely be cut . At the next level , everybody looks like they are covered . The ball has to come out on time with accuracy and pace . No excuse for underthrowing three deep balls . Do you think Saban would say “ That’s OK ! Winning in the SEC is hard ! “

You literally proved yourself wrong in your analysis. The fact that our WRs need to stick up their hand to call out they are open, means a lot.

Daniels underthrows a lot of balls. Maybe it is he just isn’t accurate, or maybe he is too late, either way he isn’t great at throwing the deep ball. He is sub par at it.

If he's holding it too long and under throwing receivers, that's not throwing a great deep ball.

His point is obviously that he was under throwing them because of timing, which is a distinctly different issue than not being able to make the throw.

Also he underthrew 2 or 3 early & then kinda dialed in down the stretch. I think maybe it was the first bomb to BTJ - absolute dime.

So you start a thread about Daniels not being bad at throwing the deep ball…

quote:

His problem is that he hesitates too long and throws the deep ball late which allows his receivers to get to far down field. He doesn’t quite have the arm strength to overcome the late throw and get it out in front of the receivers which is why they have to slow up or turn around to catch it. This also allows the DB’s to get in better position to deflect passes.

…then go on to explain why Daniels is terrible at throwing the deep ball.

Wing able to throw a good ball is a fraction of being a good QB. Nobody ever questioned that part. He just sucks at pretty much everything else.

He's not particularly good either. Or at least, consistent

He can do it, just not consistently.

It’s wild everyone tries to understand where his issue is…. His issue is not physical in any way. He can make all the throws. He has plenty of arm and actually has nice touch. His issue is reading the defense and understanding what he sees fast enough, fast enough being the key phrase.

If he can throw to his intended receiver or his second receiver he’s generally really solid. His struggles are exacerbated when we play top defenses or we don’t establish the run EARLY.

Agreed ! Please don’t confuse constructive criticism with “ hating “ on JD . Great coaches strive for perfection . As the competition gets tougher , it will be even more important that the ball comes out on time .
