From Spring Meetings interview:

4 home
4 away
1 neutral site

Thoughts?

Just because they play a shitty neutral site conference, don't try and force that one everyone else.

We benefit too much from playing out of conference opponents. Whether by exposure, recruiting, and even in some cases strength of schedule discussions.

Dan's a smart guy, but this is a bad idea.

College football was meant to be played on campus.

The last thing college football needs is more neutral games.

More Power 5 home and homes, plus it’ll continue to move that way for playoff resumes

Dan's thinking he can maybe pull a fast one, since florida already has a "neutral site game" albeit 70 miles away in Jax.

In other words, for the gators the SEC game impact would be....

CURRENTLY:
Year 1: H,A,H,A,WLOCP(A),H,A,H -- 4 games on campus
Year 2: H,A,H,A,WLOCP(H),H,A,A -- 3 games on campus

HIS PROPOSAL:
Year 1: H,A,H,A,WLOCP(N),H,A,H,A -- 4 games on campus
Year 2: H,A,H,A,WLOCP(N),H,A,H,A -- 4 games on campus

For the rest of us, we'd be forced to add and travel to the same neutral site game every year, in some cases for really lame teams like Vandy-UK in Cincinnati?

Not to mention that Vandy fans would not get to visit UK's campus for a game.

Merlins can keep his idea.

I never thought Mullen was stupid until now. Just because he is stuck playing a neutral site game every year don't try to force this on everyone else. Man I can't even imagine what a fricked up SEC would look like with this.

We need a pod system. Every team gets 3 permanent opponents that they choose and you rotate through the other 10 teams every other year (5 teams one year, 5 the next). Sticks with an 8 game conference schedule but you play every team twice in a 4 year college career.

Or do away with permanent cross-division opponents. IMO, that’s the only equitable way to go about it.

I'm not 100% against it - but outside of Florida/Georgia in JAX, I'd want it to rotate. And this would have to be the end of the non-conf neutral site games as well.

For instance - vs TAMU in Houston one year, vs Arkansas in Dallas the next year, vs Ole Miss in NOLA the following year.

It's not perfect, and I'd prefer they just stay at 8 games.

Question: Would you rather see LSU play a P5 team or a 9th SEC team.
If TV & the Bowl Champ Series is going to push the P5's toward a better schedule, why not play a 9th SEC team.
I can not accept a kid playing 4 years & not playing all of the other 13 teams in the SEC.
If it is done right, between Houston, New Orleans & Atlanta, this can work.

8 games are fine, just get rid of cross division rivals, but need to go to 9 games if we keep them.

the current sec format is a fricking joke.

Absolutely terrible.
Neutral sites suck. The problem is seeing a non permanent cross division opponent is rare. The next time LSU plays UGA in the regular season isn't until 2025 which is 7 years after the game from last year. Going from that logic you're telling me we won't see UGA in Tiger stadium for 14 years? That is insane. The pod system is the most logical.

I’m fine with 9 games no mandatory neutral sites
