Nobody is discrediting Sue Gunter because of her sexuality. There are people looking to score political “look at what i did” points simply because of her sexuality and the current social-political climate of LSU and the governor, nitwit.

Cool, lets compare their on court achievements

Ok, I'll say it. One coached in a highly competitive sport with a lot of pressure and visibility and created a winning program and set the bar for LSU basketball expectations. The other coached chick basketball. Sorry, i know we are supposed to pretend the 2 sports are equal but they just arent. Not many outside of LSU womens basketball know or care who Sue Gunter is.

It's 100% for political woke points. If they wanted to reward greatness, they'd be trying to name the track after Pat Henry or any number of people that have made LSU what it is. But they're specifically looking for a female to score woke points and its embarrassingly obvious.

She’s being pumped for political points (by imbeciles that have zero care outside of advancing in politics and increasing their retirement pensions) because of her sexuality.

She was appropriately honored at her retirement, while she was still alive. I’m sure she appreciated it greatly.
She was not ground breaking, culture changing, or monumental for basketball in Louisiana.

Dale revived a dead sport and had LSU relevant for two decades. The basketball world knows who Dale is. They don’t know who Sue is.

Political shite. Which again is why it should never have been named after him in the first place.

Dale did not revive a dead sport at LSU.

Press Maravich and Pete Maravich mostly did that. Pete was a national sensation. Crowds packed the various arenas to see him play. In his last season 69-70 they were second in the SEC (only the champ made the playoffs) and earned an NIT invite which was a big deal then.
The next season LSU finished third and the year after that they fell to 7th and Press was fired.
The impetus for the Assembly Center came from Pete. It opened in January of 1972 two seasons after Pete left and the season Press got fired. People were demanding better.

Dale took over and he certainly promoted basketball across the state, but he took over at a great time. He had a brand nee arena and tremendous support from fans that had a good taste of exciting basketball when Pete played.

It took Dale 7 seasons before he climbed his way to the top of the SEC. In his first six seasons he had a 46-62 SEC record. His sixth season when he went 12-6 in the league really kicked things off.

Nobody cared about LSU basketball, they cared about Pistol. LSU basketball was a one trick pony, and when Pete/Press left, so did the fans that came to watch Pete.

The sport was still dead in Louisiana. The arena was empty if Pete wasn’t playing.

Hell, basketball in general was dying in the 70’s. Pro basketball was dying.

Dale was instrumental in making it a consistent thing here, and thank God, because baseball and football were not great until decades later. Dale saved LSU from complete sports averageness.

I had an old buddy who was a male lesbian. So DEI (one of Tate’s calling cards) supposes gay over straight….and least on their racist totem pole is an old white dude. It’s like rock paper scissors, a woman, who is also a lesbian trumps a straight white male every day.

i was never crazy about naming the court after Brown. But to take it away would make LSU look like a bunch of unorganized clowns.

That’s where you are wrong. The interests generated by Pete wet the fan’s appetite for good basketball. LSU boosters like Dr. Redfield Bryan and Frank Brian pushed Carl Maddox to get us a coach who could rebuild our program. The new arena was there, the fan interest was there and big time boosters wanted it done.

Dale took over in the 72-73 season. At the same time the NCAA was enlarging the field and allowing two teams from the same league to get in. As the tournament expanded so did TV coverage and the dollars started rolling in.

Dale came to LSU at the right time. College basketball was really taking off.
