I stand corrected. I’ve been reading about Bo for years on the recruiting board.

Open stadium wifi is a must for LSU football this year. I went to the LSU A&M game this past year and the wifi access was flawless with 90,000 people in the stadium. It was nice during timeouts and halftime etc to scroll TD and check other scores and being able to use messanger.

Lester is just full contrarian troll now. It's cool to act like you're smart because you're a "free thinker."

Again, see previous post about women's basketball.

$300k revenue
$4.5M expense
~ $4.2M loss

You add like $1.7M to the expense side by hiring a top women's coach...guess what, you need to increase revenue almost SIX-fold ($300k x 6 = $1.8M) to cover that increase alone.

I'd be interested to see what revenue looked like during the Gunter/Pokey days with Seimone and Syl.

That could provide reasonable insight as to whether a decision like that could be made.

ETA: There is no way it was as low as $300k.

This will require 3mil.

Do we care about WBB that much?

As much as I would love to believe this would be the reaction the NCAA had done plenty to make me think otherwise. At times it seems the smaller the infraction the more attention it gets.

I just dont see the value in bringing in a highly paid women's BBall coach. Women's basketball already bleeds a ton of money, it's the biggest red sport on the finances. You bring in a $2M/yr coach, it just gets worse, but at least we'll win more...

People said the same thing in 1983 about baseball.

I wonder what these numbers looked like back when the WBB program was successful and was packing the PMAC.

I'm not new to finances, but you probably are. The women's basketball team isn't just a little in the red, it's the most red sport at LSU by a longshot in pure loss.

Since you're the finance expert why don't you tell me what those numbers looked like when we were consistently making final fours. Or for that matter tell me what Baylor's revenues look like with Mulkey

That would require the WBB coach to be paid twice as much. WBB is always going to be a drain on the athletic department. That's why I don't understand people who go crazy with posts complaining about winning and losing. The main complaint should be Fargas getting extended and getting more money.

Right. And the money in the budget to recoup most of that loss is going to have to come from somewhere. That somewhere is increased football, basketball and baseball costs. You think it's bad now that the "common man" is priced out of football games? Wait until you sink a ton of into a sport that operates, and will always operate, at a big loss.

LSU is fortunate enough to have an Athletic dept. that operates (revenue wise) independent of the academic side of the university. In fact, the athletic dept. "gives back" to the academic side. They won't be able to do that as effectively if they're throwing good money at bad business ventures.

The ONLY way I could see it working is if you are betting the TV contracts (particularly the CBS contract) will net a huge revenue increase in the next 4-5 years. However, all SEC schools would share in that increase, and I would be willing to bet the Alabama's, Auburn's, Florida's, Georgia's of the world aren't going to be sinking a significant chunk of the new revenue into WBB.

I have nothing against WBB. But from a purely business perspective it's simply just a bad business (even if it is performing at it's peak)

You think they have people knocking down the door to donate to the WBB program? Let me answer that for you: No, they are not knocking down the door to donate to the WBB program.

Title IX is an absolute joke and the NCAA should front scholarships for sports that operate in the red
