Haven't followed baseball closely the last few years, but why does everyone obsess over exit velocity all of a sudden?

Either your reach base safely or you don't?

As it turns out, hitting the ball hard gives you a better chance to reach base safely than not hitting the ball hard.

Sure, sounds like overthinking.

The game has passed me.

You have to hit it to “hit it hard”. There is nothing worse than watching all this “hard hitting” against shitty pitching and then watching them look like fools against mediocre pitching.
Good pitching > shitty hitting approach.

What if I told you it has been this way since the beginning of time? The goal has always been to hit it hard and it has always been easier to do that against shitty pitching than mediocre pitching, and even harder to do it against good pitching than mediocre pitching. That’s generally how you come to be considered good pitching, by not being hit hard.

There’s just ways to measure how hard it’s being hit now.
