Also Bregman hit 20 points lower in 2019 than he’s hitting now and was still a significantly more productive hitter.
Alex Bregman is a fantastic player. Baker wants him to be the right handed version of Brantley who hits in front of him. He has faltered in critical situations by trying to pull everything. All Dusty Baker wants him to do is hit. Why? Behind him is Alvarez who is a far better hitter than him and a natural run producer. In fact, Jose has as good of stats as Ted Williams had which is remarkable. Nobody in baseball is doing what he’s doing.

You got it. It’s been quite the combination of “thank you Captain Obvious” and things that make no sense at all.

I present Alex Bregman in 2021. Note who his coach is. Look at his BA. He is hitting 20-30 points higher than his career average.
While it is early still, Baker has forced him to start hitting to all fields versus trying to lift and pull everything to the Crawford Boxes.
Baker is 100 years old, a figure head for a manager. He hasn't forced Bregman to do anything.

Just watch how fast he exits once the season is over

Crews has very few RBIs for a 3 hole hitter. Why?
Well, for one, he hit lead off for half the season. And two, he’s not the 3-hole hitter

Says the back swamp shrimp boot wearing Waterboy. You don’t know Dusty like people here do. I’ve watched this play out. I actually go to the games here and talk to people here. You watch a star line and TV.
Do you see all the crap in the dugout now? Dusty is a no bull shite coach and always have been that way. He ain’t about being woke either. He is about being a professional. Dude is in charge he and EVERYBODY knows abs sees it. He isn’t a cheer leader like we had. Frankly, you don’t know.

For those wondering, Bregman had the worst season of his career last season under Baker, and even if you assume Baker’s advice didn’t start until this year he still isn’t the producer he was before he arrived.

To be fair, I’m sure it was an adjustment hitting without the trash cans.

good question I know it wasn't mine for sure

but why does everyone obsess over exit velocity all of a sudden?
No obsession.
I was at the game and when Crews hit it, let's just say it seemed to have something more than your garden variety HR. Just curious more than anything.
In person, that was among the three hardest hit balls I can recall:
Jose Canseco vs Detroit in Fenway circa mid-90s 440 ft.
Mahtook off Giles in Minutemaid in 2016?
Just wondering how hard it was hit.

Ummm... I don't know if you're aware of this but dusty isn't the hitting coach.cAnd if you think Bregman is hitting better now then he was in 18-19 you're drunk. Bc his batting average is 20 points higher? Well his OPS is about 100 points lower than it was when he "had holes in his swing"

It’s a good hitter scouting and development tool. It doesn’t necessarily correlate to hits. More so to power projection. Many times launch angle is looked at in conjunction with exit velo.
Basically it’s a stat
That can tell you someone Has a high power capability even when perhaps all you see is line outs of fly outs (beloso)

Wow. Big difference between 95 and 96 mph.

Perhaps what I should have said was a player who has a high exit velo doesn’t necessarily equate to a good batting average.

Over a large sample size it usually equals high power and/or batting average

It really only doesn't if the hitter has a high strikeout or walk rate. You have to put the ball in play for exit velocity to mean anything at all. The exit velocity on a strikeout or walk is 0.

Hard hit rate does for sure. but high exit velo just means they can hit the ball hard.
