You’re pushing it. BK has a great opportunity to unseat NS as LSU’s greatest coach ever.

I get why you say this but is Saban really LSU’s greatest football coach? Yes as far as his total career, he’s without a doubt the best. But as far as career at LSU, Les had the same number of championships and a better win percentage over a longer period of time.

If we are being honest Nick gets a lot more credit at LSU because of what the program became and achieved after he left. The years we didn’t win the champion like in 03’ at 13-1 were 9-3 type years.

I think Kelly is by far a better coach than our last 2 coaches, but still might not have the success they did. Les and O were very lucky and had incredible talent. Kelly will have the new challenge of dealing with transfer portal and NIL.

Win 10 games in a season,
Win the SEC,
Win a National Championship,

Then let's talk.

It is crazy to think, since there is no factual basis for your assertion. What the f is "could be" the best coach?

I swear, is there any poster here that will wait for the season to start before making these hyped up, grandiose predictions?

Hey man since you seem to have things figured out I’d like you to explain exactly what this Board called The Rant should be used for exactly. That way in the future I don’t accidentally bring anything up for “discussion” purposes that you don’t approve of.

He was still the best coach in cfb when here. He had us setup in 2006 and 2006 and 2007 to win it all

The reason I say he "could be" the best of any our coaches (including Saban) is where he is at in his career with his knowledge and experience at high levels like ND and is further along at 60 than when Nick was here at 50.

Nick Saban was way ahead of BK at 60 than where BK is currently at 60. To say that Brian Kelly could be the best coach in LSU history is a bit of a stretch but not totally impossible. He'd have to win at least 2 national titles before he retires, though, to have that distinction - at minimum. He'd probably have to have many 10-win seasons to go along with those two titles. Considering he's already 60, I'd say he retires around 70 if we're lucky. That would be one HELL of a 10 year stretch.

I like your reasoning makes sense and I’ll consider now.

Care to give a solid reason behind that?

look, I love the Kelly hire, but he hasn't coached a game for us yet. I'm very optimistic, but just breathe and let it all play out.

And there's this other guy we had awhile back that might be on top of the list.

8-4
10-3
8-5
13-1
9-3

1-BCS
2-SEC

Kelly will do better. I stand by that.

I don't think there's any question that, on paper, he's the best football HC hire that LSU has ever made. Saban had one good season at MSU and a couple at Toledo. O had a terrible record, Miles was barely over 50% at OSU. You really can't find a guy in our history that had Kelly's pedigree at the time of hiring.

That in a nutshell is reason alone for us to be optimistic that Kelly can be the best.

This is a valid point. Kelly's far more accomplished than anyone has ever been, coming in.

The concern with a guy like that is twofold-
first off, has the game passed him by?
Second, does he still have the fire in him?

I say that, because let's just be honest, Les Miles was BY FAR the most accomplished coach Kansas has ever hired. Miles didn't even move the needle while there.

Now, maybe the better comparison would be Spurrier to South Carolina, and we can hope to get about 5 years good run from him, before he calls it a day. I think those hoping for 10 years, that would be great, but you're asking a lot of a 60 yr old making tons of money in a stressful job.
