Maravich played before the introduction of the 3-point line. It's been estimated his scoring record might've climbed to more than 4,500 points with an arc.

Since this is a fact, no matter if or win his record is broken, it will still not be as great of an accomplishment as what Pete did since he never had a 3 pt shot in college.

I see there are a few people replying on twitter that he holds that record only because he shot 38 times per game.

It’s true but he still was the only person on offense teams worried about and somehow got off 38 shots a game and made like 45% of them.

We was so good that he could take 38 shots a game and still make 40 plus percent with defenses playing a box and one or a triangle and two against him.

Maravich - (28) career 50 pt. games in 3 yrs.

Davis - (0) career 50 pt. games in 5 yrs.

How many games did Pete play in compared to the kid about to break his record?

That’s crazy they can’t beat him in the aggregate even with the 3 point line.

With people complaining about all the shots, they never seem to talk about the fact that Pete also had 6.2 assists per game as a senior, which if I'm not mistaken, led the SEC!

Not to be a negative cog in this positive spin because what Pete did will never be matched, but Pete still shot the ball more that this guy so that’s a variable to measure as well.
Now if the 3 pointers weren’t a thing for this Detroit kid he would still be about 600 points back.
Pistols record won’t ever truly be matched.

It is 2 seasons. Davis is a 5th year player because of COVID.

The Detroit Mercy kid already fell 3 points short.

No more conference tournament games, no March madness, no NIT left.

HOWEVER, there is some random obscure tournament I’ve never heard of that would qualify him to break the record if he scores 4 points in the game. The school needs to pay $50k to get into that tournament if they want in, and it’s the only shot the kid has for the record

If Pete would have played 144 games his total points would be 6364.

Dale Brown had his staff chart Pete’s shots, he would have averaged 57 ppg.
4,731 would have been his point total, plus no shot clock!

Maravich also played in the era of the one shot foul and he shot a lot of those. I don’t think that balanced out the lack of a 3 pt basket but you could say he shot 3/4 of his teams 1-shot fouls (fouls before you went to 1-1) and be pretty accurate.
