They’re a 7-6 football team, breaking in a new quarterback and have a lame duck head coach. I’d expect every player and fan to have their head down until mid August.

do they ever take it down? I've seen the staff in Prairieville, they don't seem to have a high work ethic

They're quiet because they did nothing but regress

LSU is a 2 score favorite for a reason

I hate these types of threads.

I have no doubt they will come in pumped and ready to play. I don't expect ANY team to just roll over. But this is game 1 and we beat them in their house last year. Of course they want revenge.

But I also expect our own Tigers to come in focused and ready.

This actually makes me a bit concerned about the game. Not that I think LSU will overlook a big home opener as LK's first game as HC but I prefer when a big matchup has the hype of being a tight contest.

They WERE a 7-6 football team. Records from the prior season mean less now than ever before.

So are we. At least for this system. And it will be his 1st back from a serious injury.

Even if that were right, Dabo has been here before, coached in huge road games before. So has Lane, but Dabo has more experience. He’s gonna have his team prepared, and they certainly won’t be intimidated. And it’s still Clemson. They will have dudes. Not as many as we will, but it will be their 1st game playing together as teammates, and 1st game playing under a brand new offensive staff. And I’m a bit concerned about how much pressure Lane will put on himself to come out and be impressive. To send a message. I can see a few times where he goes for it on 4th down in our territory. He does that anyway, but in the 1st game, that could backfire.

I think we’ll win, and maybe even win big, but people writing this off as an easy blowout where Clemson has no chance are kinda fooling themselves. Even if it does actually turn out that way, it’s not a given. And it will be super impressive if we do.

If we played Clemson Week 10 (and no significant injuries), I think we handle them relatively easily. But this game and the Ole Miss game on the road being so early in the schedule concern me. Lane’s system is so different than anything most of our guys have played under, it might take a while to get all the operations down. Just hard to see us coming out hitting on all cylinders out the gate. But if we do, look the frick out.

Exactly, LSU fans should STFU too. We're breaking in a new coach, new offense, and new QB.

I am in no way writing off Clemson, but their fans might be quiet right now because it’s July and everything else I stated.

Posted in another thread, but applies here too:

I live in SC and am friends with LOTS of Clemson fans, season ticket holders, donors, etc. They are ready to move on from Dabo. They see him as being passed by in the NIL era with his reluctance to play the game. Lots of people here think their success was more Brent Venables than Dabo. He also turned off a lot of fans with his "if you don't want to win, fire me" comments last year. If they have an early season like they did last year he will be out.

The Clemson fans here are all but conceding this game to LSU this year.

In large part, yes. But that probably doesn't apply to Clemson as much as other programs because Dabo hasn't liked bringing in transfers. He's bringing in more transfers this season (11) than he ever has, but it is still not a significant number relative to the rest of college football. Clemson's tranfer class is ranked 56th. Maybe rankings don't mean that much, but of the 10 power conf. teams that made the CFP last year ALL had transfer classes ranked in the top 25.

A highly ranked transfer class wouldn't mean as much if a team was returning a lot of starters/key players. But Clemson is not doing that either. They return 8 total starters (3 on offense; 5 on defense). Then you factor in the HS signing classes. Clemson's 2025 class was ranked 31st. This year's class is ranked 21st. That's the two LOWEST ranked signing classes they've had in over a decade.

If you aren't bringing a ton of talent from the portal and HS signing classes, and aren't returning a lot of starters one has to ask "Where is the talent?"
