I talked to people who knew him jn high school and they thought he was coddled so much in high school that it messed him up.

I can confirm that - have talked to a number of them - won't say more.

I did watch him play there at a homecoming game - unbelievable talent. Would have been greatest RB in history based on physical talent alone - if only he could have had the moral/intellectual background to manage it.

psst:
I may or may not have forgotten the who, what, when, where of any sordid details.

edit:
- I have not witnessed anything at all of his off-field behavior - my only personal knowledge of him was from watching from the stadium or on TV of his performances during a football game.

I have talked with several people who did relate things that they "knew." - but what their source of those 'things' may be I have no knowledge.

I do not want to impune anyone's character - except Cecil Collins - and then only for what he is officially accused of doing as a teenager.

But I will say that I'd LIKE to think if I had actually witnessed some of the things I have heard 'reported,' I would have taken some kind of action to report it.

I remember a stat after 4 games he was leading the nation in rushing, even though he had only played in 3 games

Fournette led the nation in rushing the entire season in 2015.

Are you saying Collins wouldnt have? He shredded 2 good defenses. He averaged 8.3 yards a carry. Saying he was as good or better than Fournette isnt a knock on Fournette.

He probably ranks in the top 10 or 15 of LSU backs but his legend doesn't match his career. He had a few good games and then got kicked out and never really did anything else despite having an opportunity in the NFL.

I can think of several backs i would take over Cecil Collins.

Fournette and Guice both broke Collins' 232 mark against Auburn
i would take guice, fournette and faulk over collins in a heartbeat.

He was a beast man. Like a supernova he blazed and burned out quickly though.

He definitely had vision. Dude was a peeping Tom who also jacked off while watching. Exceptional vision.

I saw Collins play, and I think a lot of people have turned him into more fairytale as the years go on. Collins shredded Miss State and Auburn. Impressive what he did, but Fournette had a lot of games like those in college. He was bigger, faster, and stronger than Collins. Guice, too. And that's just running backs at LSU. But I guess it's easier to hypothesize what he could have been since we only saw him play 4 games in college.

I hear you talking but your wrong. Dude was flat out a natural RB, had just enough shift, plenty of speed and power and good vision. He would have been better in long term than Fournette (who is very good but can't change gears/direction to be elite). It just came natural to Cecil you can't coach what he had. But, other things stopped him unfortunately.

I often wonder why Cecil gets so much love

Saying someone was physically gifted to play RB but overall a crappy person is not giving him so much love.

Love both these guys, especially LF7. But CC was more agile in my memory than LF7, who can run over anyone when he wants to. But he doesn't make many people miss.

Been watching LSU football closely for 50 years and I think Cecil would have been the greatest RB in our history if he had played a whole season. JMO but he was unbelievable for 3 1/2 games.

Most overrated running back in LSU history. And, that does not mean he wasn't excellent in all 3 games that he completed. But, his legend is bigger than what he actually was.

Also...He was not on the Bo Jackson level.

Downvote away.

He crapped in a coeds shoe. In her closet. After breaking in.

Cecil had a skill that’s become undervalued. He had great balance and could slip or run out of tackles. This is what made Emmitt Smith great and why Alvin Kamara was so undervalued coming out of college. Now a days it’s more about size/speed combo, HR ability and winning at the point of attack. LF7, who IMO is the best back to ever play at LSU can run people over and hit the HR but he’s not a great tackle breaker outside of flattening a guy one on one in a squared up situation.

It was his mom while he was in HS. On scratch off tickets I believe. I would imagine both were dropped off at her house by a friend of the program. Lol.

We lost because Dumbnardo wouldn't give Cecil the ball with the game on the line. Tried a play action pass that fell incomplete late. Auburn then drove for winning points, IIRC.

I’m saying it’s ridiculous to talk about a guy who played in 4 games like people do. I guess it’s easy because it’s impossible to prove either way so people can just create these crazy comparisons. What we’re left with is anecdotal coach speak remarks about how good he was and a two game sample from 25 years ago.
