It is so awesome how with a few words Joe Burrow was able to link Tiger Nation to those in need by reminding us all that our neighbor is our brother, or in this case Joe's neighbor in Ohio is our brother. Let us not forget however that as we speak thousands of others in Ohio and across this great nation will soon have their food assistance cut by actions taken by the current administration due to more restrictive work requirement. As i understand it in Joe's hometown employment is very hard to find, as is the case in so many towns across American without the luck of simply having Joe as a neighbor. Do these down on their luck Americans not deserve the same humane treatment and concern when it comes to their food assistance as we are celebrating today and pat ourselves on the back for helping out our "Burrow Brothers?" Think about that the next time you complain about your "hard earned" money going to food assistance to lazy people not willing to work.....seems kind of a heartless and ill informed point of view now that Joe has enlightened us and shown us the way. Thanks Joe, you are truly a leader!

Who the hell are you to lecture us? And by the way, go get your facts straight before you come on here posting bullshite that people are going to go hungry because food assistance is going to be cut for lazy people who can get jobs in their community but never try. Assholes spending their day surfing because they don't need to work because they get free food from the government. shite like that. So take this to the political board and cry and whine on that board.

Politics aside, it is amazing the effect of his words on donations to the Athens food bank and other area charities. Sports can be a catalyst for tremendous positive change, compassion, and humanity and we need more athletes like Burrow to shine this type of light, instead of those like Kapernick and his woes.

Damn, you sure sound like an entitled little prick. Unemployment is at record highs and you want to sit on your arse and eat government cheese? Quit your McD's job, start a company, work your arse off, and give all of your money to charity if you want, but don't come here and deride people for donating to a cause because of support for someone we all admire.

I know!

Isn't that great?!?

ETA:
It's obvious you don't even know what the new "restrictions" are so let me help you out.

1) The new restrictions ONLY apply to "able bodied adults under the age of 50 who don't have any dependents."

Adults 50 years of age and older will not be affected. Adults with dependents will not be affected. So children will not be affected. Adults with health issues will not be affected.

2) Everyone will be eligible for food assistance for three months.

3) After the three months, able bodied adults under the age of 50 with no dependents will be required to either have a job OR be in training for at least 20 hours a week which would help them find a job in order for them to continue to receive food assistance.

4) If unemployment in the area where the person lives is 20% higher than the national average, the person can be given an exemption from the work requirement in #3 above as administered by the state, not the federal government, where the person resides.

I agree with all of those requirements because none of them sound very onerous. Able bodied adults between 18 and 49 years of age without any dependents SHOULD be either working or learning skills to be able to work.

The work requirement means you have to TRY to get work - It doesn't punish you if you DIDN'T FIND WORK.

You should know what you are speaking about before you open your mouth. BUT- you're a Democrat, so facts don't really matter do they?

First off, they’re less jobs cause of fricking obama. That idiot basically shut the door on coal mining in that and surrounding areas! There are no jobs cause of him, which is why people are turning to the food bank. Second, “Say what? Frick you”!

Given the fact that a relatively small group of football fans CHOSE to donate and feed thousands of people, it kind of kills your whole argument that the government should continue to force people to give THEM money so they can distribute how they see fit.

Which method will end up being more efficient and beneficial to society?

and GFY with this political bullshite

LSURussian,
You are basically correct in your detailed explanation of the new rule. However, incorrect in that I had not read or familiarized myself with the rule. Where you and I differ is I took the time to go beyond, "it all sounds reasonable to me" and investigated projected impact. Basically, under what was the rule, states had greater flexibility to grant waivers, you know states rights, local communities know what is best, vs overbearing federal government. This meant that rural, low population, higher unemployment, less employment opportunity areas ("Burrow towns") could receive extended SNAP at the states discretion. Under the previous rule states also had greater flexibility when recession comes and unemployment goes up as it most certainly will at some point. So under the current rule, the rural poor will be further stressed today and even worse off during any economic downturn. Which by the way will disproportionately impact red states. So next time, do your homework and assess impact of public policy before you prematurely shoot your wad...then again your post seems to indicate you derive real pleasure from others going hungry and are not really concerned about this issue at all.
