That would be the end of our program and would be the day I quit being a fan.

I have multiple great great grandfathers who fought and died for the Confederacy. Their sons were babies when they died and were told their entire life that their dads were heroes. They passed that on generation to generation.

Also the entire student body of Ole Miss joined the Confederacy, and nearly every single one of those young men died or was severely wounded in the War. 100% casualties. The "University Greys" had the most Northerly advance into enemy Union of any Confederate regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg. We will not let their sacrifice be in vain.

Regardless of today's politics, we should still honor our fallen ancestors that fought to protect our family, our homeland, and our University.

Whatever makes liberals cringe and makes people feel uncomfortable, that is what I will go with. I typically use Ole Miss, but if someone says that calling it something else will piss off liberals, I will start using that.

I too think it's simply because he's from the north. Only people from the south call them Ole Miss. That's even true for tv commentators.

This is true.

Also, only the south refers to Mississippi State as 'State'.

Here is what it said on a blood stained letter that an Ole Miss student sent home to his momma. But lets just erase history forget about how brave these young men were. They were way more of a man than any of alive us today.

Plantation days: It may have come from a title used by domestic slaves to distinguish the mistress of a plantation from "young misses". However, some say the term was derogatory and represented cruelty, turmoil, anger, and pain.

That's nice, but what does it have to do with whether the university is referred to as Ole Miss or Mississippi?

“Fun fact: One of LSU's nicknames was Ole Lou.”
True, but not many today know about Old Lou.
The university administration at Ole Miss has made an effort to rebrand as the University of Mississippi in all areas but athletics, particularly for academics. But no one in the region refers to it as “University of Mississippi” except in official communications. The med school, however, is almost never called Ole Miss Med School. In Mississippi it’s “UMC.”

I wish ULM would push harder to be called "Louisiana," it would force ull to try something else

They're barely hanging on by a thread and are one the state's universities that should be closed or consolidated. At least "Louisiana" has a decent enrollment.

I hear far more TV commentators and Yankees mistakenly say “Old Miss” - kinda makes them sound stupid or lazy
