18 has always been the “true LSU Tiger leader”.

7 was supposed to go to the game changing athlete after the Pat Pete to Mathieu pass down.

Ojulari is going to have an absolute monster year, and undoubtedly be a first round draft pick.

The first 2 guys it was passed down to were Jacob Hester and Richard Dickson, who were great players. Compare that to JD Moore, Chris Curry, Damone Clark, etc. There were good choices thrown in there but overall, there was just no consistency and it was a clusterfrick. Guys who were possibly not going to be assured starters never should’ve touched 18 IMO.

I think Kelley is he real deal, but I do not know if he has changed the culture completely , with all the players. That would be almost impossible.

You're conflating team culture with individual attitude. Josh Pate had a really good episode on that topic last week. I recommend watching it if you haven't already.

And, in particular, awarding the No. 7 jersey to Boutte, who just yesterday reconfirmed that he was threatening transfer in January (to Bama) unless he got some major cheese, tells me there is still work to be done.
Ojulari, on the other hand, is quite deserving and has always been a loyal teammate.
Congrats, BJ!

That was last season: old regime and transition. Kelly says he's all in now. I know that was frustrating for us fans, but everything seems to be rectified there.

Curry and Moore are questionable for sure.

“The Legacy Continues”?

We’ve been doing this for barely over 10 years.

Both traditions got watered down under O. Giving out two 18s was peak idiocy and giving #7 to Giles was the dumbest move ever. I really wish we would go to having 3-4 captains with captain patches in addition to 18

Or, you can build back the tradition, creating a stronger legacy going forward. Prior to O, those legacies were quite strong, albeit a short history. But legacies have to start somewhere. ANd the recent stretch of garbled mess was short-lived. It can become just a blip on the radar.

Nothing wrong with that

I feel like O should have paid him to stay. It's the least he could have done

I don’t think most folks criticize the traditions.
I think they challenge some of the choices made, like Giles and Boutte, as recipients of the honor for No. 7.
It is no longer clear at all what the criteria are for this honor.
If you give No. 7 away to the best player, even if he is not a loyal teammate, maybe Boutte is an ok choice.
Anyway, Ojalari was a good choice for No. 18.

Good for him, well deserved. He should be living in the backfield this year given the rest of the talent on that DL. Really excited.

Awesome young man, what a great representation for LSU. You just know that he will wear it with pride. Well deserved. Congrats.
