The defense on Martin and Affolter was the problem tonight... crappy job by the players "trying" to defend those 2 guards!

I'm watching this game retard. Did you think she was going to go all Gary Payton on Clark? Clark's going to score her points, HVL on defense isn't what lost this game.

She’s also sick. It was clear in the post game presser after ucla, and announcers confirmed she was so sick she needed an IV. And still hustled 40 min. Can’t ask anymore of a person.

Yeah I don't know what people want.

It's Caitlyn Clark. She's unguardable.

I don't think CC gets guarded in the WNBA either. She is that good.

Yep. She's at LEAST a 20 PPG player in her rookie season.

If that's the case, then you don't ask her to guard Clark all game long, but it wasn't defensively where HVL killed her team. HVL missed wide open shots and turned the ball over all night long. She had a negative impact on the game overall. I hope we have someone else coming in to play PG next season because HVL isn't the answer. Nor is she the answer at SG either. She's a bench player and shouldn't be playing the heavy minutes she's been getting all season long.

No one was gonna stop Clark tonight. Can’t blame HVL. Clark is on another level.

Pistol would marvel at this performance.

LSU needed to hit open shots and they did not. They had 3 people jumping to Reese in the post. LSU should have had open shots all night. They just can’t hit open jumpers.

Exactly.

We go 8 for 26 instead of 5 for 26 in the third quarter and it's a nail biter at the end.

HVL struggles big time on inlet passes to Reese. That's a huge flaw. She's a little slow footed when guarding on the outside.

I don't see HVL making it in the WNBA.

I don’t think that many people are bitching about her defense. She’s thrown more pics than Jarret Lee

She finished with 2 turnovers…

I can’t tell you how many times posters misattributed a turnover by someone else as “OMG ANOTHER HVL TURNOVER!!!” when it was actually a different player.

Flau’jae and Mikayla finished with 3 each, yet those turnovers get mentioned far less.

As you hinted, the whining about Van Lith's turnovers and not being the fastest guard has been overblown. Her passing BTW in general has been pretty good IMO. I realize offensively not being the fastest guard keeps her from getting a bunch of driving layups.

What does bother me is her bad shooting percentage from the field in many games...1 for 8 in previous game...2 for 10 in this game. Whether it is rushing her shot or not getting set before shooting, that needs to be fixed. Apparently, she is just a catch and shoot player and can't even dribble before the shot. Because at the FT line she is 83% which is superb. And BTW, most of the FT are "string music" as Joe Dean used to say..don't even touch the rim. So she has a nice shot but has to be in the right environment.

We beat them last year by shutting everyone else down. We haven't done that in this game.

Iowa stats
2023 85 total points; Clark 30/others 55

2024 94 total points; Clark 41/others 53

So you are wrong.

The big difference is our scoring/shooting
LSU
2023 102 points; 38-70 54%, 11-17 three point for 65%
2024 34-88 38.6%, 8-24 three point for 33%

Obviously our shooting was the biggest difference, and to a lesser extent Clark was better. The rest of her team contributed about the same.

To be fair, it’s hard to tell them apart. I don’t see an agenda here.

HVL is a Tiger and clearly hustles, tries hard and seems to be a good teammate. The outsized animosity towards her is a little weird.

Women’s basketball will always be a little clunky at times, beautiful at other times. Watched UConn last night and their guard anticipated her teammate moving the other way and passed the ball out of bounds. It is sport, it happens.

Last year we beat them in the 2nd quarter behind Jasmine Carter. This year they beat us in the 3rd quarter behind Caitlyn Clark and our one true star going 1/12 after rolling her ankle. It is sport - it happens. We still scored 87 points. You win some and you lose some…

I agree

All her passess are from the top of the key or the wing.

Therein lies the problem, she CANNOT CREATE easy buckets for her teammates. Now I get it, she is not a true PG. But in her capacity, against IOWA, she still couldn't Create off the dribble.
