The Advocate is doing something similar right now, they did C and 1B the last two days.

They normally do it much later

quote:Eh... He was more polished with Doolittle being extremely raw. But Doolittle was exactly what you look for in a catcher. Quick, good size, moved well and he could swing it lefty with some authority. He needed to work on receiving but what freshman catcher doesn't? And he would still have been an upgrade from Pap at the plate.
The good news is Feduccia by far was the better player in the fall
ETA: Hunter was definitely the winner of the position, but Doolittle would have gotten really good experience with a game or two per week and he was the future. We have to hope he returns next year and we pull in at least two freshman catchers to solidify the position moving forward.

They also need to hope they get CJ Willis comes to LSU because like you said Feduccia and Coomes may not be here in 2019.

I think they are prepared for the eventuality that Feduccia is gone after this year. And also the potential of losing Willis.
They picked up commitments from 2 JUCO freshman catchers within a week of Doolittle transferring. Saul Garza at Howard hasn't started his career yet, but was a 31st round pick of the Cardinals last season. He was also heavily recruited by Texas Tech.
Brock Mathis has started off hot for Northwest Florida St. I don't have his stats in front of me right now, but he's doing well. Caught 2 games, DH's in the other game. He had a 60% scholarship to Louisville but couldn't get a loan to cover the rest of the tuition and ended up at JUCO. He briefly committed to Wright St, but decided he wanted to stay in the south.
Both catchers will come in as Sophomores.
Mason Doolittle has only played in 1 of his teams 4 games this so far.

That is huge if he makes it campus. Louisville always seems to find guys who can rake, would another love a catcher with some offensive chops like Feduccia.

Yeah, I threw that in there because I think so highly of the way Louisville recruits.
Here are his stats so far: LINK
.462/.500/.846 slash line, 1 HR, 2 2b, 1 SB in 3 games.

How is that even possible. That sounds like bullshite. He'd be the first kid in the last 20 years to not be able to get a student loan.

It'd be about $14k per year for the 40% he'd have to cover of tuition, room & board, based on the planning software I just plugged Louisville into.
Regardless, he was recruited there but will end up here and can rake.

Feduccia has had better numbers all around though, Doolittle was a below average hitter with little power, he was just hyped up before he got here
He also didnt have a great attitude and only cared for himself from what I've heard

you are the man. I'm curious if you would consider putting up the estimated final grades of each player from last season along side of this year's starter to aid us in comparison . i.e. Pap for this thread
or, just reply here with your thoughts on Pap's final grades for my own review. just curious, as i respect your grading
